Com o Predator Helios Neo 16, a Acer adiciona outro modelo ao segmento de laptops para jogos de médio porte. O hardware corresponde aos cenários de uso direcionados para jogos, renderização e streaming: um processador Core i7-14700HX, a GeForce RTX 407032 GB de RAM e uma tela IPS brilhante com cores precisas (DCI-P3) no formato 16:10.

Gabinete - A Acer usa plástico e alumínio

O gabinete apresenta bom acabamento. Embora a unidade de base de plástico e a tampa de alumínio possam se deformar um pouco, isso permanece dentro dos limites. A pressão na parte traseira da tampa da tela não causa nenhum artefato na imagem. As dobradiças mantêm a tampa firmemente no lugar, com um ângulo de abertura máximo de cerca de 150 graus. A tampa pode ser aberta com uma única mão.

Em termos de cor do gabinete, o preto predomina e apenas as tampas de ventilação na parte traseira têm um tom de cinza mais claro. A iluminação do teclado e o logotipo iluminado do Predator na parte posterior da tampa acrescentam um pouco de cor.

Dispositivos de entrada - O teclado oferece iluminação RGB

Teclado

A Acer está usando um teclado chicklet médio (com iluminação RGB) que é adequado para as tarefas diárias e não se destaca nem positiva nem negativamente. Suas teclas suaves oferecem um toque curto, um ponto de pressão claro e uma quantidade razoável de resistência. O teclado tem um mínimo de elasticidade durante a digitação, o que não chega a ser um obstáculo. O fato de as quatro teclas de seta terem tamanho normal é uma vantagem.

Touchpad

O ClickPad com capacidade multitoque (~12,6 x 8,3 cm, ~5 x 3,3 pol.) também não se destaca das demais. Ele oferece um curso curto e um ponto de pressão claro, permitindo que os dedos deslizem facilmente pela superfície lisa.

Tela - Painel WQXGA brilhante com cobertura DCI-P3

A tela IPS de 16 polegadas (2560x1600 pixels) no formato 16:10, ideal para o trabalho, apresenta ângulos de visão estáveis, ausência de oscilação de PWM, tempos de resposta curtos, superfície fosca e alto brilho (>500 cd/m²). Esse último permite que o senhor leia o conteúdo da tela em ambientes externos, desde que a luz do sol não seja muito forte.

A Acer usa um painel de 240 Hz com suporte para G-Sync. Com isso, as taxas de atualização da tela e da GPU são ajustadas dinamicamente para permitir que as imagens em movimento sejam as mais suaves possíveis, especialmente durante os jogos.

Observe que, aparentemente, o overdrive do LCD não pode ser desativado. Os tempos de resposta permanecem no mesmo nível, independentemente da posição da chave liga/desliga dentro do software PredatorSense (centro de controle do laptop).

Com isso, o monitor Predator oferece uma melhor cobertura do espaço de cores do que os painéis da maioria dos concorrentes. Em geral, o monitor já apresenta uma boa reprodução de cores no estado de entrega, com um desvio de 1,7 (meta: DeltaE < 3). Uma calibração adicional reduz ainda mais o valor para 0,52, o que é muito bom.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

To dim the screen, some notebooks will simply cycle the backlight on and off in rapid succession - a method called Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) . This cycling frequency should ideally be undetectable to the human eye. If said frequency is too low, users with sensitive eyes may experience strain or headaches or even notice the flickering altogether.

O grupo de usuários-alvo do laptop de 16 polegadas da Acer inclui gamers e criadores. O laptop é executado pelo Raptor Lake e Ada Lovelace. No momento deste teste, o modelo da nossa unidade de teste ainda não estava disponível (na Alemanha), mas o senhor pode obter um modelo irmão com 16 em vez de 32 GB de RAM por quase 1.900 euros (~$2.044). O modelo mais acessível da série custa cerca de 1.500 euros (~$1.614).

Condições de teste

O fabricante oferece seis modos de sistema diferentes - quatro na rede elétrica e dois na operação com bateria (consulte a tabela). Usamos o modo "Performance" para nossos benchmarks e o "Eco" para os testes de bateria. Para usar o "Turbo" ou o "Performance", o senhor precisa de um nível de bateria de pelo menos 40%. É possível alternar entre os modos pressionando uma tecla (acima do teclado) ou pelo software PredatorSense (centro de controle do laptop), com um LED indicando o modo que está ativo no momento.

Processador

Os 20 núcleos de CPU (8P + 12E = 28 threads) do Core i7-14700HX (Raptor Lake) atingem velocidades máximas de clock de 5,5 GHz (P) e 3,9 GHz (E), respectivamente. A carga multithread constante (CB15 Loop) é tratada com uma velocidade de clock constante, independentemente do perfil de energia selecionado. No entanto, as diferenças são bastante baixas, com apenas o perfil "Silent" reduzindo significativamente o desempenho.

Os resultados do benchmark são um pouco decepcionantes: Apesar dos quatro núcleos adicionais da CPU e das velocidades de clock mais altas, o desempenho multi-thread está no mesmo nível do Core i7-14650HX. Somente no desempenho single-thread o 14700HX é capaz de fazer uso de sua potência nominalmente adicional.

Emissões - O laptop Acer produz muito ruído

Emissões de ruído

O desenvolvimento de ruído representa um dos maiores pontos fracos do Predator. Como esperado para sua classe, o laptop produz muito ruído sob carga. Mas mesmo uma carga baixa (download de um jogo) leva a um funcionamento audível da ventoinha, produzindo alguns ruídos de zumbido. Esse comportamento não se manifesta apenas nos modos de energia orientados para o desempenho, mas também no perfil "Silencioso". Resta saber se a Acer conseguirá ajustar isso em uma atualização futura. Também pode ser possível que nossa unidade de teste tenha um defeito.

Duração da bateria

A duração da bateria é ruim no geral: Valores de cerca de 4 horas em nosso teste WiFi carregando sites via script e teste de vídeo reproduzindo o curta-metragem Big Buck Bunny (codificação H.264, FHD) em um loop constante não estão mais de acordo com os padrões atuais. O Helios Neo 16 é voltado para gamers e criadores e tem o hardware correspondente integrado: um Core i7-14700HX, GeForce RTX 4070e uma tela brilhante de 16 polegadas (2560x1600 pixels, DCI-P3, G-Sync, 240 Hz) no formato 16:10. A CPU e a GPU são capazes de funcionar com velocidades de clock constantemente altas, e um SSD PCIe 4 rápido (1 TB) garante tempos de carregamento curtos.

O Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 oferece um alto desempenho e um bom nível de equipamento, mas também mostra alguns pontos fracos.

Duas portas USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) facilitam a integração do laptop às configurações existentes no local de trabalho, permitindo também algumas opções de expansão, como o uso de uma GPU externa ou estação de acoplamento. Ambas as portas são capazes de emitir um sinal DisplayPort e também suportam o Power Delivery.

A boa impressão inicial do laptop é prejudicada pelo consumo de energia e pelos valores de emissão: Durante a operação em modo inativo e com pouca carga, as ventoinhas funcionam em excesso e, muitas vezes, aumentam muito a rotação. Sob as mesmas condições, o consumo de energia também é muito alto, resultando em uma duração de bateria relativamente ruim. Talvez a Acer consiga corrigir esses problemas com uma futura atualização do BIOS. Também não podemos descartar um defeito em nossa unidade de teste, pois, caso contrário, não poderíamos recomendar a compra.

Uma alternativa poderia ser a Aorus 16X (2024)que oferece um desempenho de computação comparável, mas proporciona uma duração de bateria significativamente maior.
