Com o seu incomum nome DTEK50, a BlackBerry provavelmente tenha o smartphone Android mais seguro na linha de partida. O Android 6.0 Marshmallow reforçado funciona encriptado, não permite a aplicação de nenhum código, e é executado somente quando o bootloader não foi comprometido. Adicionalmente, o app chamado DTEK para atividades suspeitas no smartphone e fornece sugestões sobre como fazer com que o aparelho seja ainda mais seguro. A política de atualização do fabricante também mostra quão sério a BlackBerry leva a abordagem da sua segurança. A BlackBerry tem como alvo reagir a ameaças cibernéticas de forma muito mais rápida que a concorrência e demonstrou isso recentemente com o patch lançado rapidamente pela vulnerabilidade de segurança "QuadRooter". No entanto, o por quê o DTEK50 não está equipado com um leitor de digitais permanecerá como segredo do fabricante.
Nenhum outro smartphone Android atualmente protege tão bem os usuários contra vulnerabilidades de segurança e ameaças cibernéticas quanto o BlackBerry's DTEK50.
Além desses extensos recursos de segurança, o BlackBerry DTEK50 permanece como um sólido smartphone de gama média. Ele convence com um painel brilhante, painel Full HD, bom desempenho do SoC, os poderosos alto falantes estéreo, e uma boa duração da bateria. Apesar de seus extras de segurança e com um preço de 300 Euros (~$337), não custa mais que um aparelho Android padrão equipado de forma similar. No entanto, a BlackBerry recorta o armazenamento, apenas 9 GB dos 16 GB estão disponíveis para o usuário. As câmeras também não empolgarão a ninguém - eles não são nem muito bons, nem muito ruins, simplesmente enjoadamente médios. O smartphone falhou absolutamente no desempenho do Wi-Fi dado que não excedeu os lentos 40 MBit/s apesar do suporte para 802.11ac no teste. Também temos que criticar o DTEK50 por pequenas incompatibilidades: Três benchmarks não rodaram no teste, o qual provavelmente se deve aos mecanismos de segurança do smartphone.
