The return of the BlackBerry. After two years of development behind the scenes, the Canadian firm BlackBerry comes back on the market with their brand new BlackBerry 10 OS and their new Z10 model. Outfitted with a high-resolution 4.2-inch display, a powerful Qualcomm S4 SoC and useful extras, the smartphone finally steps onto the stage. Is that enough for it to hold its own amidst the long-established competition?

An excellent effort from BlackBerry, the BB10 OS is smooth and has all the key features you'd expect. It's easy to navigate and the messaging hub is the best on any platform. The hardware included in the Z10 is also up there with iPhone and Galaxy S3.

The Galaxy S4 looks similar to the Galaxy S3 in design: it's pretty different to the BlackBerry Z10, which from the front at least looks like a squarer iPhone 5. The Galaxy S4 is rounded and pebble-like, the BlackBerry Z10 a thin-and-stylish rectangular slab of black. The Galaxy S4 is mostly plastic with a removable cover, while the Z10's front is almost all black, but it also has a thin plastic removable cover.

The BlackBerry Z10 is sleek and sophisticated device with superb build quality. It has a lot of things going for it such as a sharp 4.2" screen, fluid gesture based UI, impressive multimedia performance, and a great keyboard. However, it's the price tag of Rs 43,000 that holds me back from whole-heartedly recommending it. Looking at the features it offers, I think the right price for this handset should have been around 35k. Having said that, if you're BlackBerry fan who can live without maps, then go for the Z10 — it's the best touchscreen device that the Canadian manufacturer has ever produced. Otherwise, the iPhone 5, Lumia 920, and HTC One are better buys.

Like the PlayBook, and also Windows 8, the Z10 makes extensive use of edge-swipes to access key features. With the phone in standby, you can swipe up to unlock the phone. From the lockscreen, a swipe down from the top edge puts the phone into bedside mode. A single swipe from the bottom of the screen in any app takes you back to a multitasking view, where you can switch apps, dismiss them with a tap, or swipe right to left to access the app-launcher view. Finally, and most usefully, if you swipe up from the bottom of the screen in any app and hold down your finger, you can take a quick peek at your messages, then swipe right to access the BlackBerry Hub.

BlackBerry's Q10 is filled with many creative features but its ultimate success will come down to one basic question: Do you want a qwerty device? I don't think the era of the qwerty is over, since I have met users who prefer a physical keyboard. But they are in the definite minority. What Q10 users will get with the new smartphone is a distinctive-looking device with a vivid display, an easy-to-use physical keyboard and touchscreen interface and an inventive approach to user security and management. In the most optimistic scenario, BlackBerry's Q10 sales will out-do its Z10 sales, which BlackBerry claims have gone well, critics notwithstanding. If BlackBerry can continue to attract developers to build more apps for BlackBerry World and if BlackBerry can propel its Messenger app into a fuller social networking experience, then there is some basis for believing BlackBerry has a solid long-term future, well above its current 5% global smartphone market share. Just about everything -- hardware to software -- in the Q10 (and the Z10) is good, but the market is crowded with great products that will make BlackBerry's marketing more vital than ever.

We expected the more expensive BlackBerry Q10 to put its cheaper sibling to shame in pretty much every category. However, having compared the two, we found the two smartphones fairly evenly matched, raising the question as to whether the BlackBerry Q10 is worth the extra £200. Aside from those considerations, however, we found that the BlackBerry Q5 does a good job for its price, matching the BlackBerry Q10 with regard to screen, performance, operating system and all-round usability.

The BlackBerry Q10 is undoubtedly a worthy successor to their previous flagship, the Bold 9900. It’s faster, has a better screen, great battery life and better camera. And BB10 is really fun to use once you get the hang of it. However, the brakes slam on very hard when the asking price is a whopping Rs 44,900. That’s even more expensive than BB’s own Z10! We can’t seem to figure out BlackBerry’s method to this madness. BBM will soon no longer be exclusive to BB devices as the plan is to roll it out as a free app to Android and iOS, hopefully, with all the features. So the only truly unique feature of the Q10 is the keyboard, and that’s certainly not worth the asking price. Our other niggles with the handset was the lack of FM Radio, adding media files the ‘right way’ can be a chore and the fact that the app store is still a long way from reaching the likes of the competition. Our biggest issue is the price, of course, which makes it very difficult to recommend.

As for iOS and Android users, I still feel like there isn’t enough in BlackBerry 10 to warrant jumping ship, that is, unless you have been fumbling with a virtual keyboard and have yet to feel comfortable. In that case, I feel the BlackBerry Q10 would be the perfect reason for you to jump into BlackBerry 10 as you’ll be able to perform many of the tasks you could on iOS and Android on this device, although don’t expect the support for BlackBerry World to be as vast as the App Store and Google Play Store.

I certainly don’t dislike the Q10, but I’m not sure I could go back to a physical keyboard after I’ve been using touchscreen-based keyboards for a few years now. However, the Q10 is still a great device, and it’s definitely the BlackBerry handset to get if you want a physical QWERTY keyboard on your next smartphone. Plus, the Q10 features the best of both worlds: a physical keyboard and a touch screen, which almost seems like too much to ask for, but BlackBerry was like, “No problem.” It’s not a completely solid medley between the two, but it definitely still works out great.

The Blackberry Q10 is a great smartphone, and admittedly it's the only device out there for buyers looking for a top-end smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard. Those thinking about switching from a top-end Android device or an iPhone might not be easily won over by the small screen size and lack of apps, however, and we hesitate to recommend the device to those who are simply contemplating giving it a go.

In a nutshell, the Q10 delivers everything RIM should have offered three years ago. I was surprised how much I got along with it. For all its quirks, the Q10 deserves high marks for ease of use and performance. The design and pricing are clearly high end, and it is intended to compete with the latest and greatest full touch devices on £35-£40 contracts. Yet people looking for a more practical device with a clear utility aren't well-catered for today. Not everybody wants or needs glitzy, high-spec techno porn. Nokia has recognised that need and I imagine with future models, BlackBerry can pull off the same trick. As it is, the Q10 offers a lot of convenience.

Problem is, that group is also a shrinking one, and what were previously the inescapable advantages of a QWERTY device – like unsurpassed typing accuracy – are no longer so clean-cut. Typing on the BlackBerry keyboard is great, but then so is typing on the Z10′s clever software keyboard, and indeed most other modern smartphones. That leaves the Q10 feeling a lot like a sop to keep the old-school users happy, while the rest of the market goes in a different direction. If you’re wedded to keys then the Q10 is the BlackBerry – and potentially the smartphone, period – for you, but for the everyone else it’s more like proof that the days of physical keyboards are behind us.

The Q10 services a very specific need, and we'll see whether that’s enough to keep it relevant. If you’ve held off purchasing a new phone to find one with a physical keyboard, the BlackBerry Q10 is probably the best of a dwindling number of options. On the other hand, with the Q10 retailing at $250 with a two-year contract—more than the cost of a new iPhone or Windows Phone—I’d give it a pass. Despite the keyboard, app support is tepid, and there are better and more affordable phones on the market.

The Q5 is a tad more expensive than what the sweet spot would have been - somewhere around the Rs. 20,000 mark. It's a must buy for those who desperately want a BlackBerry 10 device, but for whom the Q10 is out of budget. Otherwise, for the same amount of money, a few Android phones and the Apple iPhone 4 (if you don't mind the old phone) will offer better application variety and usage experience.

The first piece of good news is that the Q5 is substantially cheaper than the Q10. BlackBerry has had to cut down on some key specifications and the materials used to build it, but overall you’re left with a very good experience that comes close to its more expensive brethren. However, Rs 24,990 is still quite expensive for the Q5 as we would peg the value of the handset at not more than Rs 20,000. If BlackBerry drops the price to sub-20k, then the Q5 has the potential for doing well.

The Q5 is a tough call to make. It’s almost certainly going to become the work BlackBerry if the Z10 hasn’t already and while we commend BlackBerry’s intentions in trying to create a BB10 handset for both work and youth, it's kinda missed the point. Would we recommend it? If you’re after a typing experience but can’t afford the frankly silly price of the Q10 then this is definitely your best bet, but if you’re after something more than that we’d have to suggest looking elsewhere.

All in all, the Q5 is a workhorse with an OS still in its early days. I suspect the "ambitious" and "youthful" crowd won’t be getting a Q5 out of choice - it’s still too expensive. It needs to be on a £20/month contract to be considered, and they’ll be after something classier if they can afford it. Priced alongside last year’s Galaxy S3 for example, it’s hard to see who in that target market would opt for this drab offering. The beloved BIS, which piped email and BBM to a BlackBerry subscriber for a flat rate, is gone, and isn’t coming back. Very shortly one will no longer need to buy a BlackBerry to tap into the previously exclusive BBM social network. For enterprises, particularly those with a sunken investment in BlackBerry Enterprise Server and corporate apps, it’s a more solid choice. Shame about the unforgiving keyboard.

With decent performance levels and a mid-range price, the Q5 is reasonable handset. However, it's suited more to the consumer market and is unlikely to anything more than a secondary messaging device for most business users due to the small screen.

What gives us most pause about the Q5 is its price. It may have half the name of the Q10, but it doesn’t have half the RRP: in fact, SIM-free in the UK where sales have already begun, the Q5 is £320 ($477) including tax, versus £480 ($715) for the Q10. Sign up to a contract, and you’ll spend just £8 ($12) per month more for the Q10 than the Q5. We’d argue not only that the Q10 is still too expensive for what you get – though we’d prefer it over the Q5 – but that the Q5 isn’t as cheap as it really needs to be. If you’re determined to get a BlackBerry and must have a keyboard, then the Q10 should be your choice; everybody else will likely find more rewarding devices running Android or iOS.

The BlackBerry Q5 is difficult to love. Sure it's got all the core smartphone features, but it doesn't really excel at anything, apart from perhaps web browsing, but even that's hampered somewhat by the pokey 3.1-inch display. The BlackBerry Q5 feels like it should be dropped down the pricing scale, towards the bottom of the mid-tier of smartphones - and at that price we could very well be recommending it, but as it stands it's hard to make a convincing argument for this BlackBerry 10 handset.

Summing up, we've found the Q5 lives up to the legacy set by its top-end siblings, delivering the same BYOD and productivity services that made the Z10 and Q10 an ideal choice for business. However, it also suffers from the same weakness, featuring middling build quality, a screen overly prone to picking up glare and an average rear-facing camera. All this adds up to mean that while the Q5 is a good, semi-affordable option for businesses users eager to upgrade their existing work BlackBerry, we can't see it having any real mass market appeal.

With two high-end devices already out it makes sense that BlackBerry would return to its established emerging markets and make a phone that would be deemed ‘affordable’. What will be most interesting however is seeing just how affordable it really is, sporting many of the same specs as the Q10 many users could be in for a shock when BlackBerry does finally release pricing information.

The BlackBerry 9720 delivers on its stated aim. It offers a mild upgrade option for enterprise customers still tied to BlackBerry services and not ready or willing to upgrade to BlackBerry 10. As a budget competitor for a wider audience, we're less convinced. Strong messaging credentials cannot make up for weaknesses in almost every other department.

BlackBerry OS 7.1 is not dead, not by a long shot. Smartphones running the OS will very much be around, and the 9720 is just one of the many that the company says will be launched in the coming months. At Rs. 15,990, the 9720 does test your love for BlackBerry, and will pretty much carry on with what the previous series of Curve phones did - appeal to the young demographic who want a BlackBerry for BBM, or just for the keyboard. The rest will probably find it too drab and repetitive.

Given that the original Passport was a decent phone in everything but design, it’s a real shame that Blackberry didn’t decide to crush that bizarre square construction into a more manageable rectangular shape. While the Silver Edition will no doubt entice Blackberry lovers who were saving up for a Passport, it’s definitely not worth an upgrade for existing Passport owners and does nothing to sway anyone put off by the original phone’s awkward design.

Overall the BlackBerry Passport is a really great smartphone. For the modern day tech-savy business user this would be a perfect device, for the average smartphone owner with a little adjustment of their expectations it could again be the perfect device. The combination of decent hardware, a great camera and intuitive software really make for a great overall package. The only slight issues are the size of the Passport and the slightly hit and miss nature of the app situation. Currently you can buy the Passport for about £375 over at Clove or about £499 at BlackBerry.

BlackBerry has succeeded in doing something different and producing a new device that sums up everything it is as a brand. That is a brilliant thing, and to those that feel this is aimed at them (medical professionals, entrepreneurs, the email-obsessed) then it should be up there as one of the first phones you consider. But for everyone else, this is unashamedly a productivity-centric machine that'll let you take your work around with you. What it's not is the market's best new smartphone.

Still, this creative take on mobile working must be applauded, even if we don’t expect the Passport to sell in the millions. BlackBerry hopes to revive its fortunes with the Passport, and has come up with an innovative business-focused handset. We've seen the Passport ridiculed on size grounds, but this is unfair in our view. Yes it's large and difficult to use one-handed, and it lacks 'blingy' consumer features, but there are plenty of plus points: its 4.5-inch, 1:1 aspect ratio screen provides space to do real work; the touch-enabled QWERTY keyboard is usable and functional; services like Blend, Balance and Hub have obvious appeal to business users; Assistant lets you accomplish some tasks very quickly; the BES back end is a very capable enterprise mobile management system; and battery life is superb.

Finding a way out of the doldrums has become a do-or-die for BlackBerry, time perhaps to do something different than just do better. Not that the Z-series did anything wrong. But if the mindset back then was all about catching up to Android and iOS, the BlackBerry Passport marks a return to an identity that's authentically Blackberry's. And the Passport is nothing if not different.

As the dust settles, the Passport can’t quite get out of customs, even though it has a passport that shows it’s capable of proceeding onward. For roughly the same amount of money, we can recommend several other flagship smartphones that have a more rounded appeal than this. Sorry Passport, you tried desperately to beat out these all-touch smartphones, but at the end of the day, your poorly laid out keyboard and antiquated software experience validates you’re just not ready for the big leagues.

Large, awkward phablets are already popular so there's little worry about the shape and size being a turn-off. There's only the question of whether people will be willing to give BlackBerry a try. Devices such as the Z10 and Z3 simply don't have what it takes to stand out in a crowd of Android phones, but the Passport is new and different, and has very easily understandable benefits to offer. After many, many long years, BlackBerry might finally have done something completely right.

Some readers commented that my Passport sample photos impressed them in my smartphone camera shootout and so far I have been pleased with the results. I like the way the camera software checks conditions and prompts me to change the shooting mode, for example to include HDR, for optimal shots.

The BlackBerry Passport is a very good phone. All the staples the company is known for are rock solid: tools for productivity, call quality, message management and battery longevity. The 10.3 update has also helped alleviate (although certainly not eradicate) the issue of flexibility with regards to app selection. The camera is significantly better too. In fact everything that long-time BlackBerry users knew the company needed to work on, have been worked on.

This is BlackBerry’s comeback smartphone, and whether it is wildly successful or a moderate success, or even a failure, the company has got everyone’s attention. And I think that’s the strategy at work here — not about setting sales registers afire, but about making a statement–that BlackBerry is not dead, but alive and kicking, that it has the courage to innovate and that the company has a razor sharp focus back on the enterprise and productivity. And if it sells well, that’s just icing on the cake. The Passport is not BlackBerry’s saviour but just one of the milestones in BlackBerry’s attempt to reinvent itself.

That said, if you can get past the out-there form factor and less expansive app selection, then the handset has a lot going for it. Its physical keyboard shows the company continuing to defy the industry trend, and offers an accurate and satisfying experience. While the square display might be poorly suited to viewing video content, it’s great for web browsing and messaging. Overall, we can’t say that the Passport is the right device for you, but we can say that it has enough interesting ideas to make it well worth a look.

BlackBerry returns with an highly unusual design that's uncompromisingly aimed at two groups: enterprise users and those looking for powerful complementary "second phone". The Passport showcases one great innovation – a capacitive multitouch physical keyboard. While this holds great promise – and BB10 is maturing into a strong platform for business and power users – in reality, the Passport doesn't integrate the UI and the keyboard well. Indeed, its assertive shape and bulk will repel all but the determined.

BlackBerry has given itself an uphill struggle in producing a handset which so squarely (pardon the pun) bucks the handset trend, and in deciding to support Android but not the full Play store. For corporate customers operating a BES, the Passport is probably the best smartphone option currently available. Offering a wealth of security and management features as well as a productivity-focused touch-enabled physical keyboard, coupled with BlackBerry's Hub feature, the Passport does have definite business appeal. But despite BlackBerry's efforts to make the Passport more consumer friendly as well, its slightly chunky design and focus on productivity features hamper its BYOD appeal. As a result we can't see many buyers outside enterprise firms already using BlackBerry choosing the Passport over a competing Android, iOS or Windows Phone handset.

The build quality of the phone is extremely good. It felt solid but not heavy and the keyboard felt great. The specifications of the phone are also in line with other top end devices as well. The screen is running at a resolution of 1440X1440 pixels, and there's a 13-megapixel camera that seemed to be pretty good though a little slow to focus. A 2.2GHz processor and 3GB of RAM, along with 32GB of storage round out a pretty good device, on paper.

While BlackBerry has a number of great improvements in the Passport, I'm not sure how much they matter. Yes, it is nice to have a fast processor, a clear display and long battery life, but the added width of the square display means very little to me. Various rectangular phones I've tried show me all I need to see while on websites or typing emails. I'm not one to regularly compose or edit Excel spreadsheets, so the added width to do that is also meaningless to me. Admittedly, I'm not the target user of this device.

So, okay. Here's a weird thing. My BlackBerry Passport review period overlapped with my iPhone 6 review period. And while I was doing the iPhone 6 review, I kept checking the Passport even though it had a cracked screen for my e-mail. I'll just put that out there. The BlackBerry Passport is the apotheosis of the work phone. It is spectacular at the things you need to do for work: fitting in your jacket pocket, lasting all day, calling, emailing, Web browsing, editing PowerPoints, and showing them on a big screen.

Simply put, the BlackBerry Passport is a fantastic device that ranks right up there with the best phones I’ve used this year. But will it help BlackBerry regain market share? I certainly hope so. I don’t think BlackBerry made the Passport with the intention of converting someone from an iPhone. It’s made for someone who has owned a BlackBerry before and wants to fall in love with it all over again. There really is nothing else in the market quite like the BlackBerry Passport.

The BlackBerry Passport is the first smartphone I've reviewed in years that I really didn't want to carry. Part of me liked having a physical keyboard again, but I couldn't type quickly enough on the wide layout. Worse, the heavy and awkward design made taking this device out and using it feel like work -- which is tragically ironic, given the productivity benefits the Passport's wide display, long battery life and smarter new BlackBerry 10.3 OS provide.

The PRIV isn’t perfect, as noted throughout this review, but I have tried to be as diplomatic as possible, highlighting why certain things might not work quite as well as they should, commending its positives, and attempting to explain the presence of certain performance gremlins. This is a new beginning of sorts for BlackBerry and the true test of the PRIV is not sales or this first batch of reviews, but how it develops in the coming months once BlackBerry has some user data to work with and can update the software accordingly.

The BlackBerry DTEK50 is definitely not perfect. It has its issues; most notably battery life and performance. However, the handset — for its price and features — is very impressive. I like what BlackBerry attempted to do here and I have even more respect for them as a company for even considering it.

Neither phone can easily be mistaken for a BlackBerry, but you could argue that the Priv with its slide-out Qwerty keyboard comes nearest. If a physical keyboard is top of your wishlist there's only one logical choice here, and the recent reduction in price also makes a strong case for the Priv. The DTEK50 is just a little bit 'meh', while its predecessor at least has something about it and has a stronger specs sheet.

If you had to ask me if I would recommend the Priv as a worthwhile purchase? That would be a tricky one to answer. For brand die-hards you will of course pick up the Priv and learn to love the open OS from Android. All the applications that are available will breathe fresh life into the Blackberry offering. If, though, you are not huge BlackBerry fan and just want the best for your money, then it’s still worth a look if you do not mind the large design.

You – and I – will be wanting the much-rumoured Android version of the Passport that I still think Blackberry would be crazy not to announce in the first half of 2016. If BlackBerry had trimmed some features and delivered an Android phone with a keyboard at a lower price point, we'd have been far more enthusiastic, and the company might have found itself some new fans. However, everything launched since the Z10 seems pointlessly overpriced, chasing an audience that might not even exist. All predictions of BlackBerry's demise have thus far not come to pass, but we're not sure how long that can continue at this rate.

The app can, for example, monitor what resources each app used, and log it with the time and place. In a demo, BlackBerry showed a popular torch app on Android had activated the microphone of the device on 3 different occasions recently, complete with the time and place where it was activated, along with the number of seconds it was active. If you’re in that camp, you’ll find the PRIV frustrating and will miss the intuitiveness and fluidity that BB10 offers. Sadly app developers continue to ignore BB10 so PRIV is the solution for those that. It brings full Android support and all the apps with it. The choice is yours to make.

It constitutes a huge step forward in a few respects. It is definitely a big leap ahead of its BlackBerry siblings in terms of hardware, but, perhaps more-importantly, it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities now that it runs Android natively. Come to think about it, this is hardly a new development path for BlackBerry, which has long showed a lot of affection for the Google's sprawling app ecosystem. Whether or not the Priv will be met with approval and set BlackBerry on a new development path is yet to be seen, but it is undeniable that despite its flaws, it is currently one of the best business smartphones out there.

Despite my moans over the unnecessarily messy software and the weight and sheer bulk of the thing, there’s something about the Priv that I find appealing. Perhaps it’s seeing BlackBerry (at last) getting itself on the right track with its hardware and software, perhaps it’s because the Priv attempts to do things differently, but this is a smartphone that I’ve enjoyed using in the time I’ve had it.In a world of bland, homogenous smartphone design, the BlackBerry Priv stands out as a beacon of individuality, a smartphone that does everything a standard Android smartphone can, but without sinking into morass of mediocrity. It isn’t the greatest phone around, but at least it’s something different.

I’m really glad that BlackBerry made the Priv. I hope they sell enough devices to keep in business and keep trying to innovate themselves out of the hole they made for themselves. I never thought I’d say those words, but it’s true. We need better competition in Android because we don’t all need black slabs that do the same thing with slightly better battery life or slightly better cameras to differentiate. I want to see more than that, and I think the Priv is a great first step towards that reality.

Ultimately, how you feel about the BlackBerry Priv likely has a lot to do with your last phone. If you’re a longtime BlackBerry user who’s looking for something that finally—finally—gives you a hardware keyboard with a legitimate app ecosystem and some of the manufacturer’s legacy features, this is your phone. But Android and iPhone users will be looking for a better camera, better integration between BlackBerry and Android, a better feeling when you’re typing on the bottom of that touchscreen. The Priv feels like a first step toward a device that could bridge the work-play gap—a promising first step, but one the company really should have taken years ago.

In comparing it to what’s out there, however, it’s going to mainly hinge on whether or not you want a physical keyboard. Touchscreens have seemingly eliminated the need for physical keyboards, seeing that they’re generally faster, but the convenience is always here with the PRIV. The other matter to think about is security and privacy, which the PRIV has a solid lockdown on, but for those users who want more freedom in customizing the experience, you’re certainly not going to have that luxury here – albeit, from a security standpoint, your data and privacy are protected.

The BlackBerry Priv is the mullet of the smartphone world. It's still business in the front, but now there's a party in the back too. It will divide opinion, but this is the best BlackBerry in years.

The Priv is very much a first attempt at integrating a platform with an app stack that doesn’t always mesh smoothly with the underlying platform; there are a few signs the Priv was rushed onto the market: there are quirks and annoyances. But for the most part it succeeds, and offers so much more functionality and convenience than generic slab rivals, it simply demands the serious user's attention.

This is the best smartphone BlackBerry has made, no question about it, but will it save the firm's handset business? We're not so sure. Perhaps if it arrived at the start of the year we'd be waxing lyrical about the BlackBerry Priv.

The BlackBerry Priv is a Hail Mary pass by the former tech powerhouse, hoping to revive its fortunes by adopting the Android operating system, resurrecting the slidable physical keyboard, and pushing a wealth of BlackBerry security and productivity services.

The BlackBerry PRIV (as in PRIVacy) is the first true Android phone from the company, and it comes with exactly what made BlackBerry great: a good physical keyboard. On paper, it seems like a dream come true for BB fans: finally, a handset that merges the positives of both Android (Apps) and BlackBerry (text communications + keyboard).

BlackBerry's back, surprisingly, with a bang. Meet the BlackBerry Priv, the latest handset from the Canadian smartphone maker, but it's not your typical BlackBerry. Instead, it runs Android, boasts flagship specs and features a slide-out physical keyboard that's just like the rest of the BlackBerry collection.

The Blackberry Priv really is the best Blackberry phone of recent times, if not all time. By ditching its own OS for Android, Blackberry will hopefully tempt back lost followers and welcome fresh supporters to its fold, while the tweaks and bonus features such as Blackberry Hub and DTEK make for a solid user experience. Factor in the impressive hardware and this really is one of the best phones of 2015.

BlackBerry is probably done as a phone manufacturer, and John Chen has pledged to shut down the division if it doesn't turn a profit by 2016. That's not going to be possible, not through any fault of BlackBerry, but because almost no Android manufacturer seems to be able to turn a decent profit on smartphones these days.

But is being saddled with a boring phone worth those frequent security patches? Only if you’re very worried about falling victim to whatever treacherous Android malware threat will make headlines next. And even then, you can probably shop around and find the better, faster Priv for $300 and retain the physical keyboard that is BlackBerry’s heart and soul. The DTEK50 is secure, sure, but it’s underwhelming in most every other regard. If BlackBerry could only marry that security with better hardware, then it’d have a far more compelling package. Until then, it fails to stand out in a competitive field of midrange smartphones.

BlackBerry's second attempt at an Android smartphone lacks the ambition of last year's Priv, but don't get hung up on that. The BlackBerry DTEK50 is a good phone. Above average, even. But we can’t fully recommend it because of the way BlackBerry is marketing it. The perhaps incorrect status quo is that people don’t want to worry about security; they just want a phone that works. Security flaws on huge scales are largely down to external database hacks, not device vulnerabilities. The DTEK50 is a good phone at a good price, but it isn’t different enough to drag BlackBerry back into smartphone relevance.

There you have it for this in-depth look at the BlackBerry DTEK50! $300 is relatively cheap, especially if you want a smartphone that prioritizes security. If that is the case, you’re probably not going to find a better deal. However, as far as phones go, there are a few better options out there that offer a lot more for similar prices, like the OnePlus 3, the Moto G4 Plus, and the Axon 7. If you do store a lot of sensitive information on your phone, the DTEK50’s top notch security will be well worth the investment, but if there is one major flaw, it is that BlackBerry didn’t make it a better phone all around.

Specs wise, the DTEK50 comes equipped with a 5.2-inch 1080p display that I found bright and vibrant, though also comparable to other mid-range phones that share its price point. It also features a Snapdragon 617 processor, which is likely sufficient for the device’s target enterprise market, especially given its 3GB of RAM, allowing for ample multitasking. The phone also comes equipped with 16GB of storage.

Of course, BlackBerry doesn’t plan to hang its hat on this device. The more premium (and much higher-priced) Priv felt like much more of an attempt to define BlackBerry’s future, and the company has promised more keyboard devices to come. As it stands, the DTEK50 is a decent mid-tier device targeted at users seeking a security suite that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

For the first time in a while, this is a BlackBerry we can recommend to the individual consumer. It is also a business device, but the flexibility of Android means it is versatile enough to be moulded to the needs of both. It marries the Android operating system with robust, easy to use security features and slick design, all for under £500. It doesn’t have the brand clout of an iPhone or the curved edges of a Samsung Galaxy, but with its admittedly quite straight-faced take on the modern smartphone BlackBerry has just – just – turned a corner. This is an excellent smartphone.

With the OnePlus 3 on the market disrupting everything, it’s easy to look at a device like the BlackBerry DTEK60 and think it’s far too expensive. But, at the same time, similarly specced products from the likes of Samsung, Google, Apple and LG all cost more than the BlackBerry. The spec list reads as well as pretty much any flagship smartphone out there. It has the Quad HD screen, Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB RAM. But it’s still hard to escape the fact that this is a more powerful version of the Vodafone Smart Platinum 7 we reviewed a few months back, and that only costs £300.

The BlackBerry KEYone Black Edition definitely looks prettier — in my opinion — than its silver sibling. Colour difference aside, the increase in RAM and double the storage is definitely worth the price difference between the two KEYone versions and easily retains its Top Pick of 2017 status here at Techaeris. Either way, you can’t really go wrong with either version.

For regular folks there are better options, however. The Snapdragon 625 CPU means the phone feels overpriced and doesn’t match the performance of cheaper handsets like the OnePlus 3T. I’m also not convinced younger buyers who’ve been raised on touchscreens will find the addition of a physical keyboard remotely helpful – even I struggled to use the keyboard initially, despite having used BlackBerry phones throughout most of my teenage years.

A BlackBerry without a physical keyboard! Nothing like this has ever happened before. The BlackBerry Motion shows that it can be done, without a physical keyboard. The latest Smartphone from the brand is based on Google’s Android OS instead of the conventional BlackBerry OS. The preferred audience, however, continues to be business people.

The BlackBerry Motion is a solid handset that offers just enough to make things interesting. The design is different, the build is solid, the software has the firm's touches on it to make it stand out from the crowd. These are all great things but what most will question, before even getting to experience it, is the price. When all is said and done, you're looking at $449.99 for the unlocked variant in the United States which, for some, can be a hard pill to swallow.

If all of that sounds great to you, you'll have a wonderful time with the BlackBerry Motion. Just keep in mind that you won't get top-of-the-line performance or an award-winning camera, even so, both the CPU and camera do their jobs fairly well. At the end of the day, this is a respectable phone with decent specs, a reliable software experience with regular security updates, and a reputable name in smartphones with a Chinese phone maker backing it up.

The Motion isn't so much a big step forward for the BlackBerry line as it is a revamped KEYone, only now without the hardware keyboard. And really, that's not the worst idea for a phone we've ever heard. While some users absolutely loved that keyboard, it was a pretty divisive feature, and if you thought it was ridiculous we'd be trading valuable screen real estate for something that could be implemented perfectly well in software – well, the Motion is just what you've been looking for.

The second smartphone developed by BlackBerry Mobile is an all-touch affair, and it manages to get more right than wrong. The combination of a mid-range chipset, a 5.5-inch 1080p screen and an enormous battery mean the new BlackBerry Motion routinely runs for two days on a single charge. We also appreciated the handful of valuable software features layered on top of Android, something we can't say of every phone maker. Unfortunately, the camera's performance left a lot to be desired, and there are more powerful devices available in the same price range. Ultimately, it's a good phone, but not a very good deal.

The BlackBerry Motion takes the DNA of the BlackBerry KEYone, adds a bigger battery, IP67 water and dust resistance, and loses the keyboard in favor of an all touchscreen design. The BlackBerry Motion proves a difficult device to rate. It’s too big, and there’s not much to tempt a casual smartphone buyer here aside from outstanding battery life. It is too austere and clunky even in comparison to the KeyOne, and won’t stand out in the £400 price bracket – a price hangover from the premium leanings of the BlackBerry name.

So far I've been pretty bowled over by the BlackBerry Motion, it's a really fun little handset to get to grips with and has a lot of enjoyable and useful features. It feels innovative and interesting to use, as if it's been streamlined to include only what you really need on a phone rather than going all-out on one area and becoming imbalanced. I'll have to see whether the sheen wears off over time or if this handset can go the distance and keep me coming back for more.

The full-touch BlackBerry Motion isn't a phone that gets you excited. That doesn't mean there isn't anything wrong with it but it's clearly not aiming for the highend segment.

In conclusion, the BlackBerry Key2 is a great device for the business focused consumer, but as a personal device, the Key2 is much harder to recommend. Why? My main concerns are the lack of Android 9 Pie (or a commitment to deliver said update), and the lacklustre camera performance. Even as a BYOD device for work, the Key2 might be a bit too much of a compromise for users that – these days – typically look for some combination of longer battery life, a great camera, and prompt software updates. The Key2 does reasonably well in most areas, but perhaps not quite well enough.

This all feeds into the frustrations of the KEY2. Although on receiving and powering up the device it was all very exciting, after a week I was fed up. The Blackberry Key2 looks perfectly sophisticated and functional. Like all Blackberry devices in the past, this is the businessman’s phone of choice, one who doesn’t watch videos or play games, but furiously replies to emails and texts. It’s also a power user’s phone given all the shortcut options it has. It’s certainly not for a performance enthusiast or a gamer, but anyone who still hasn’t shaken off the charm of typing on a physical keyboard should consider buying the Blackberry Key2.

The BlackBerry KEY2 is one of the unique designed smartphones; it’s a classic candy bar style with a 4.5-inch IPS touchscreen display at the top and a physical smart intelligent QWERTY keyboard at the bottom. The physical keyboard offers swipe gestures along with fingerprint sensor over the top of spacebar key. On the back, the device features a rubberized texture for a grip. Talking about the keyboard, there are total 35 keys including a new shortcut key. It is by far the most intelligent way to access your favourite app. The back, home and the menu buttons are situated above the keyboard, which means you have to move your thumb above the keyboard to navigate. Underneath the volume rocker on the right-hand side is a button that does nothing out of the box. BlackBerry calls this the “convenience key” and the idea is that you can bind it to any app according to your needs.

The Key2 is a solid phone and offers all the feature that you would like to see in a premium BlackBerry phone. But as I said in the beginning, the Key2 caters to specific users who have owned a BlackBerry device in the past or those who prefer a phone with a physical keyboard. BlackBerry phones always command a high price so I wasn’t surprised to see when the Key2 was announced at Rs 42,990. If you are keen to buy a phone with a physical keyboard, BlackBerry Key2 is the only option in the market.

The KEY2 is the best BlackBerry that you can buy right now. It marries old-school charm with modern-day technology, and also manages to offer the best of both worlds in real world usage scenarios. It isn't perfect, but its clientele will probably be aware of its limitations before getting their hands on it. That's because even in its imperfections, the BlackBerry KEY2 manages to hold its head high. It is the first BlackBerry phone in years to make sense and even though there are better phones around Rs 43,000 now, the KEY2 will still find takers. Among fans and loyalists who had been waiting for the company to make a comeback. Last year's KEYone, although it was a good attempt, was not that phone. But the KEY2 is.

With the various changes that TCL and BlackBerry have done from KEY to KEY2 it has become a vastly and more welcoming device. I have been enjoying my time with it and am continuing to use it as my daily as of this typing. Its hits on so many marks with a killer battery that goes in for days and security software that lets you keep an eye on every app in the device. The keyboard has been improved and has assigned on providing better accuracy in my typing experience. While its software is secure I feel they can go in and fix some minor glitches that will help the user. Camera isn’t anything special and while it doesn’t work for me it may just do fine for others. At its pricing I would of liked to see a bit more or even if it was maybe $50 less. Also hope with its full release that carriers will be able to push some updates out to cater to its service better. BlackBerry's reception has been generally good since it revealed the KEYOne. This is a brand that is certainly on the right path to a successful revival, though, it will be a very long road ahead. BlackBerry needs to figure out how to cater to its legacy users while also appealing to the younger, digital generation of smartphone users. And then there's the matter of its pricing, which is now a full $100 more than its predecessor's original starting cost. At a whopping $650, it's competing in a tough space – more so when there's the OnePlus 6 selling for less and leveraging the Snapdragon 845. If the price remained the same as its predecessor at $550, the BlackBerry KEY2 would be a strong contender in the mid-range space, but at $100 more, it's a tougher sell because it's encroaching upon flagship-cost territory.

It might sound like I'm damning the phone with faint praise, but whatever: The BlackBerry KEY2 is the best Android-powered BlackBerry ever made, and it improves on last year's formula in almost every way. That said, the KEY2 remains a questionable option for most smartphone shoppers -- you could get a more-powerful Android phone like the OnePlus 6 for less money, and I suspect most people have moved on from physical keyboards without looking back. That said, for the right people -- people who long for tactile keys and data privacy -- the KEY2 just might be the right device at the right time.

With the Key2, I don’t think BlackBerry is going to entice anyone who didn’t like the KeyOne, but if you’re a fan of the keyboard-toting Android phones then there are enough upgrades to get you interested again.

It is not a flagship-class device. Instread it is a highly competent communications device when you need security and a keyboard. It is unique in that space as Samsung Galaxy Note is with a stylus.

The Key2 is in many ways unsurprising. It takes TCL’s BlackBerry redesign and tweaks it to improve the keyboard, cameras and software. The speed key is a niche addition to an already niche phone but it’s a thoughtful change, and 6GB as standard is notable.

The BlackBerry Key2 has a great little keyboard and gives you more control over your privacy than other Android phones do.

The new BlackBerry Key2 is a phone designed entirely for BlackBerry fans. You won't want this if you're thinking of upgrading from a Galaxy S7, although there's something charming about a physical keyboard still. A slightly underpowered CPU might not be up to all tasks, but it helps keep the price a little lower and seems to combine well with the improvements BlackBerry has brought.

It's hard to place the BlackBerry Key2 in any meaningful industry-wide context. It is part of what will likely always remain an extremely specialized niche and one that can't be judged against the usual criteria.

BlackBerry’s renaissance launched with aplomb last year with the BlackBerry KEYone. A year on, and two new variants later, including the first dual SIM BlackBerry ever, the company is back with its new keyboard-toting phone, the BlackBerry KEY2. It’s got an updated design, a new special key, and the first ever dual camera on a BlackBerry, but should this be your new phone? Let’s take a look!

To conclude, the BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X come loaded with a different design and the display looks promising. However, judging by the sheer specifications, the phones look overpriced. On the software front, both of them does come with privacy-driven features, but that is also present in the rest of BlackBerry devices.

The Evolve and Evolve X are sure to face stiff competition from the likes of the Nokia 7 Plus (Review), OnePlus 6 (Review), and Asus ZenFone 5Z (Review), all of which have got top marks from us at Gadgets 360. We are eager to test the in-built apps and features, which might just help offset the uninspiring hardware. We will also be evaluating the design, display, performance, battery life, and cameras of both phones. For all that and more, stay tuned for our full review of the Evolve and Evolve X.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve used a BlackBerry. I think the last one I used for any period of time was the BlackBerry 8700C. So reading several other reviews will certainly help give you a more rounded idea about what to expect with the KEY2 LE. I don’t hate the phone, but I didn’t find the physical keyboard experience as good as I thought it would have been. This may be entirely different for you and you might actually love it. The best I can say is, buy it and try it. Or maybe find someone with a KEY2 or KEY2 LE and give it a go for a few minutes just to get an idea. It’s a fine mid-range device, but it’s my opinion that physical keyboards are just not for everyone anymore.

Going from the KEY2 to the KEY2 LE resulted in mixed results. The LE is suited for those that want a KEY2 but not pay the $649.99 price tag so of course you are compromising with a lower processor that can affect performance, no capacitive keyboard and significant change in build quality. On the plus side you the phone does feel lighter and easier to grip and I like typing on the LE keyboard more even with its omissions. Also, what will gear a decent amount of folks to the LE over the KEY2 is its inclusion of Verizon phone services. Its been wanted for awhile now and Big Red has flipped the switch for this device. That and the $200 price difference making it $449.99 doesn’t hurt either.

Retro phones are making a comeback and the BlackBerry KEY2 LE may be just what you are looking for while all of your other friends rock similar glass sandwiches. Today's smartphones have very similar form factors and have trends that go in waves, such as the notch, pinhole camera, and under display fingerprint scanner. TCL Communication bucks the trends and continues to release BlackBerry devices with physical QWERTY keyboards.

I think BlackBerry is correct in that they need a phone hitting the price point below the $700 Key2 proper. However, I don’t know if the Key2 LE is that device. The keyboard and overall build materials make me feel the Key2 model needs to stay at the premium level. At $450 unlocked, I’d be more pressed to point a buyer towards a more polished product from Motorola or Nokia. They have much better hardware at even cheaper prices. If you can afford another $100, I’d also totally recommend the OnePlus 6T.

By this point in 2018, even hardcore BlackBerry fans and enthusiasts will have at least tried out a touchscreen phone. Unless you're utterly and completely certain by now that you need a physical keyboard, the Key2 LE is not the best use of your money. The most obvious competitors around this price are the Asus ZenFone 5z (Review) and Poco F1 ₹ 19,999 (Review), both of which have flagship-class specifications and cost less than Rs. 30,000. You could also look at several good options at lower prices that would save you some money, and subscribe to BlackBerry's Android app suite for a small amount each month.

If you're a keyboard die-hard, the Key2 LE is an intriguing and affordable option thanks to the solid Android platform and productivity-boosting software from BlackBerry. At Rs 29,990, BlackBerry Key2 LE is a tough sell even for business-savvy consumers. For me, the biggest issue with the Key2 LE is the lack of purpose. Granted, the phone is not for everyone and it is targeted at those who can’t live without a physical keyboard. But that experience then has to overshadow everything else and that’s where the BlackBerry Key2 LE fails to recreate the magic of an old BlackBerry phone.

The KEY2 LE will be made available in markets including Canada, France, Germany, the UAE, the UK, and the US starting next month. It comes across as a solid, no-nonsense smartphone crafted for physical keyboard loyalists on a relatively tight budget. BlackBerry smartphones are sold in India by licensee brand Optimues Infracom, which recently launched the KEY2 in the country for Rs. 42,990. If it brings the KEY2 LE to India and prices it aggressively, this phone could definitely make its presence felt in the market.
