Tiger Lake Iris Xe G7 e GeForce MX350 são do pescoço ao pescoço no 3DMark - então por que o chip Intel ainda é muito mais lento quando se joga?

Drivers não otimizados, um pool compartilhado de TDP e falta de VRAM no Iris Xe G7 podem estar atribuindo alguns déficits de desempenho íngreme quando comparados com a GeForce MX150, MX250, ou MX350 series quando executando certos jogos. Alguns poucos títulos, no entanto, mostram o chip Intel a ser igual ao da Nvidia.

Acabamos de terminar de testar um pequeno punhado de Intel Evo Ultrabooks equipados com a CPU i7-1165G7 da 11ª geração Core i7-1165G7 e gráficos integrados Iris Xe G7. Esta GPU em particular foi tocada como sendo uma alternativa à popular série GeForce MX e os resultados do 3DMark certamente sugerem isso com pontuações que são "pescoço a pescoço" entre os dois. Ao rodar jogos reais, no entanto, a GPU Nvidia ainda superará quase sempre o novo chip de fantasia da Intel em até 80% em alguns títulos, apesar do que o 3DMark está nos dizendo, como mostram os gráficos de comparação abaixo.

Os jogos que testamos que rodam mais rápido na GeForce MX350 do que no Iris Xe G7 incluem o seguinte:

  • GTA V
  • DOTA 2
  • X-Plane
  • Sombra do invasor de túmulos
  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  • A Divisão 2
  • Fronteiras 3
  • Far Cry New Dawn
  • Anno 1800
  • Ordem Jedi Guerra nas Estrelas

Temos algumas teorias sobre a razão pela qual isto pode estar acontecendo. A primeira é uma otimização mais pobre da Intel quando comparada com os motoristas mais maduros da Nvidia. Os poucos sistemas do Tiger Lake que comparamos estavam funcionando com drivers gráficos de pré-lançamento que certamente serão atualizados assim que chegarem ao varejo. É improvável que as atualizações de drivers fechem significativamente a lacuna da taxa de quadros, mas elas pelo menos aliviarão alguns dos problemas que experimentamos.

Nossa segunda teoria é que a Intel pode ter focado na otimização de seus drivers gráficos especificamente para o 3DMark porque a maioria dos pontos de venda de tecnologia usa o 3DMark como um padrão de qualidade. Isto pode ser considerado trapaça, mas já mencionamos no passado que o 3DMark pode ser uma ferramenta pobre de qualquer forma para comparar GPUs de diferentes famílias, como o Iris Xe G7 com o GeForce MX350. Em vez disso, a ferramenta está no seu melhor quando se compara GPUs dentro da mesma família (ou seja, Intel Iris com Iris ou Nvidia GeForce com GeForce).

Nossa última teoria envolve o pool de TDP compartilhado com a CPU e a falta de VRAM. Ao contrário da discreta GeForce MX350, a integrada Iris Xe G7 deve compartilhar recursos com a CPU sob o mesmo envelope de energia de 15 W a 28 W. Este equilíbrio de energia é muito mais delicado, pois uma CPU estressada significará menos recursos para a GPU e vice versa. Enquanto isso, a RAM do sistema compartilhado pode economizar espaço na placa-mãe e consumo geral de energia, mas nunca será tão ideal como um pool de VRAM dedicado para jogos.

Ainda temos que testar mais laptops Tiger Lake Iris Xe G7 antes de tirar mais conclusões. Até agora, no entanto, os usuários com laptops GeForce MX não devem sentir que estão perdendo muito em termos de desempenho, saltando o 11º gênero Tiger Lake-U.
