The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Plus is easily one of the best Android tablets you can buy, complicated only by the fact that Tab S9 Ultra takes the top spot. It’s both well-built and is a nippy performer, and it’s packed with software tweaks such as Samsung DeX, that improve its flexibility over regular Android tablets. Ultimately, the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus is a great choice if your budget can’t quite stretch to the Ultra. The cutbacks are minor and you’re still getting an awful lot of tablet for your money – best of all, it’s significantly cheaper than the base 12.9in M2 iPad Pro, comes with more storage and a stylus included in the box.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ improve upon the best Android phones of last year in several key ways, including performance, low-light photography and slow-motion video recording. The displays are also brighter than the S8 and S8+, while the stereo speakers are louder and you still get long battery life (though the S9+ is better there).

With an overall score of 81 points, the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus achieves an excellent DxOMark Selfie ranking, thanks to very good face exposure, nice skin tones, and clean images with low levels of noise across all light levels in still image mode. Exposure and skin tones are equally good when shooting video, and the very good stabilization system helps keep things steady.

After reviewing both the 6.2-inch Galaxy S9+ and the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9, we think the S9+ offers enough extra features and performance to justify its higher price tag. Still, the S9 is a solid upgrade over past Samsung phones in its own right and is a good choice for anyone who wants a smaller device or balks at paying more than $750 for a smartphone.

Much of what I’ve noted isn’t all that positive, but that’s not to say either of these phones are bad. They do the main things very well, like general usage, smooth performance, great photos and elegant design. It’s not the sum that’s bad, it’s some of the parts that force compromises.

The kind of performance I'm now seeing from the Galaxy S9+ means it'll easily last a few days on a single charge if your use of the handset is quite minimalistic; I spent about a day using it for photography from 100% charge and a couple days later it's still on 43%. You won't find a bigger and better Android phone than the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, thanks to its oversized 6.2-inch curved screen and low-light-defeating dual-lens camera. Sure, it looks exactly like last year's S8 Plus, but it does fix the fingerprint sensor location (it's now center-aligned on the back) and speakers (now stereo). The new AR Emoji mode is overrated, though, and its higher price is tough to justify. This is for people who want the biggest screen and the best camera on one phone.

Our deep dive testing reinforces the feeling that both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are great phones, sitting atop the market as of their release. On the other hand, the S9 and S9 Plus don’t offer a whole lot from their predecessors. It’s the most minimal refresh we’ve seen from Samsung. And when that happens, it muddles the recommendation. Most will probably agree that the S9’s updates aren’t worth hundreds more. And it doesn’t help that its most highlighted feature, the variable aperture camera, doesn’t actually equate to much. The considerable benefits of the S9 are the dual speakers, wide f/1.5 lens, corrected fingerprint scanner location, and brighter screen. It’ll be up to you if that’s worth the extra dough.

Overall Samsung's Galaxy S9+ looks just like its predecessor - but it is a better phone than last year's version, and an even closer performance competitor to Apple's iPhone 8/8 Plus and X handsets thanks to the very fast Snapdragon 845 in the U.S. version. The camera is again fantastic - perhaps the best ever in a smartphone, and this time around it offers an enhanced slow-motion capability for video as well. The industrial design and construction quality are both world-class, and in general there is nothing to complain about with Samsung's latest flagship, though the rather severely sloping sides of the display due to the curved glass design can be a little distracting when text is displayed on the edges of the screen.

Finally the recommendation of the Galaxy S9 will be based on which market you are in and which variant you’ll be able to purchase. The Snapdragon 845 variant in the US, China and Japan is a healthy upgrade over its predecessors and I don’t really have much to say against it as a phone, besides the camera exposure issues. Here Samsung iterated and perfected over the S8, and whether the S9 is worth to you as an upgrade is something you’ll need to decide based on its individual parts, because as a package, the Snapdragon S9s don’t disappoint.

Overall the Samsung Galaxy S9+ is a good upgrade to the Galaxy S8+. Even though it has the same display, it has slightly smaller bottom bezels, packs a faster processor with 6GB RAM, comes with a better dual-aperture and telephoto rear cameras, which is a huge improvement compared to the S8+, stereo speakers and finally perfect placement of the fingerprint sensor. Samsung finally offers a 256GB version for those who need it. It has the same old front camera and Bixby is still not up to the mark compared to Google Assistant, when it comes to showing the info you need. The camera quality is still not up to the mark when compared to the Pixel 2 series or the iPhone X, especially in low-light, since Pixel 2 images offer better shadow and highlight and portraits are obviously better in Pixel 2.

If we had to choose, we’d recommend the smaller Galaxy S9. Both are great phones — don’t get us wrong — but the S9 is easier to hold without sacrificing too much screen, and it still comes with most of the new camera features Samsung introduced this year. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is the best Android smartphone available right. It's looks stunning especially because of the astoundingly bright display and a design that blends the display to the rest of the body. But more than that, this time, Samsung has taken a new approach to improving the low-light performance of the camera. The rear camera can switch between two apertures. The camera, if one knows how to take good photos, can produce some high-quality shots under poor lighting, especially in a restaurant on indoors, but there are limitations.

With the S9 and S9+, Samsung swing their engineering talent, brand power and their overall focus back towards the camera side of the equation and, while the results of this pivot aren’t by any means poor, the whole thing does come off as a little predictable.

Finally, it's worth noting that the price of Samsung's S range is slowly creeping up. Last year, the S8 retailed for S$1,148, while the S8+ was S$1,298. This year, the S9 is S$1,198, and the S9+ starts at $1,348 for the 64GB model, and goes up to S$1,498 for the 256GB model. That's S$100 more than last year's Note8 (albeit it was only made available with 64GB internal storage).

We mentioned how the S9 makes zero sense if you already have the S8, and the S8 can even make a strong case for itself if you're contemplating between the two right now. It's not quite as easy with the Plus - a whole extra camera makes a difference in a way a second speaker and a 0.4 stop of light really can't.

Phone calls over the past week were perfect, I regularly maintained a connection while my coworker with an iPhone 7 Plus on T-Mobile lost signal, I took lots of photos on my trip with the S9 Plus, and never once felt something as missing from my mobile experience. The rear fingerprint scanner performed flawlessly and my frustration with the offset fingerprint scanner from last year's models is gone.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is a perfect smartphone for the camera lovers as it has big 6.2 inches’ screen with mindblowing camera results. Although the virtual reality is little overvalued because it is not as extraordinary as it should be plus the prices are very high in range. Still, a bigger battery means more of a charge, and since the S8+ was able to outlast the S8 by 25 minutes in our battery test, we expect that the S9+ will top the S9 once we finish testing that second phone. If you want a longer-lasting phone, the S9+ is the better bet.

It seems like every year we declare Samsung’s flagships the best ever in their class. It’s becoming repetitive, but it doesn’t make it any less true – the Korean chaebol’s newest flagships are the best to come out so far this year and their best ever. Obviously 2018 has barely started and there’s yet another flagship announcement in the horizon, but Samsung has a good chance of retaining that title until the end of the year – that’s if the Note 9 fails to impress, which is unlikely.

The Samsung Galaxy S9+ is in a pretty interesting position. Many would consider it to be a very small upgrade from the Galaxy S8, and so brushes it off as Samsung playing it safe. The thing here is, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ were two of the best smartphones released in 2017, redefining the industry with the Infinity Display and the world’s first 10nm processors in the Exynos 8895 and Snapdragon 845.

While the Galaxy S9+ may not look that much different than the Galaxy S8+, much of the improvements were made under the hood. Don’t fix something that ain’t broken, right? It’s got a slightly more compact in an almost identical design, a more practical placement of the fingerprint scanner and an inclusion of stereo speakers are all nice.

To conclude our Samsung Galaxy S9+ review, I think it’s important to point out why this phone exists. Samsung really wants to offer the full package. The best all rounder. A phone that excels in everything, and that’s also delightful to use. In that respect, I think the company has succeeded. The whole concept of the camera re-imagined is not necessarily accurate, but it’s not like if the photos were bad. They’re mostly awesome.

You’ll know the feature is active because a red light will illuminate above the phone’s display. Ultimately, when you boil it all down, though it's still a pricey option, the new Samsung Galaxy S9+ is simply one of the best Android phones money can buy right now. It's arguably one of the best designed large format Android phones too, with gorgeous, sleek styling. And though battery life so far (we're still re-testing) hasn't dropped in quite where we expected, it's still pretty solid there too. The Galaxy S9+ is also currently the fastest Android handset on the market, with the best camera we've ever tested, as well as easily the best display of any smartphone we've seen to date. This new Galaxy S device also brings some innovative new features to the mix as well, like Super Slow-Mo, which is just plain fun. Regardless, that's a lot of "bests" Samsung has going on here and that, in our opinion adds up to an Editor's Choice device. Samsung nailed it with the new Samsung Galaxy S9+. Fantastic phone.

When I first picked up the Galaxy S9+ I was certain it would be the better phone of the two new Samsungs. Now I’m not so sure. Dual cameras aside, there’s barely any difference between the two phones and I just find the standard S9 easier to hold. To me at least, that’s a bigger deal than being able to zoom in a little bit more than normal on your photos.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are subtle upgrades to last year’s S8 line. The most significant improvements are found in the fingerprint scanner position, the new intelligent face scan feature, the AR Emoji 3D avatars, and the camera, but only for the S9+, which gets the secondary zoom camera of the Note 8. In any case, if you’re a current Galaxy S8 user, we’d say an upgrade to the S9 would be completely unnecessary, but that’s expected. For owners of older devices, like the S7 or S6, the Galaxy S9 will feel like a major step forward.

It was rather pleasantly surprising to see Samsung announce the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus at nearly the same price as the S8 and S8 Plus, much less than the iPhone X. Two days before Mobile World Congress 2018 officially kicked off, I was already in Spain, being secreted to a closed-door preview of the Samsung Galaxy S9 at some back alley gallery in Barcelona, camera in one hand, non-disclosure agreement (NDA) in another. Not that there was any real need, considering the S9 has probably been one of the most-leaked smartphones yet. And yes, almost everything you've read about the device to date, is true. Just a quick personal observation. Samsung is finally learning to play the crowd with the Galaxy S9. Instead of just throwing new features, they're making sure things work better, and play better with each other. I really liked that small little tidbit about the Lilac Purple color not being some random afterthought and instead is in the spirit of Pantone's Color of the Year. For Samsung fans, the S9 is familiar and builds upon the features of last year's S8. It's not revolutionary, but it feels more usable, more accessible, and more fun.

Like we said earlier, potentially the most significant upgrades the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ bring are in the camera department - super-slow mo recording at 960fps, dual aperture capability on the rear camera sensor, which is capable of shooting at f/2.4 when there’s plenty of light, but can switch to f/1.5 when the phone detects low-light conditions. This is supplemented by a secondary 12-megapixel sensor on the Galaxy S9+ for a dual rear camera setup. Needless to say, the time we spent with the Galaxy S9 duo on Sunday wasn’t enough to make any definite comments on their camera capability, and we look forward to testing them out in detail soon.
