Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a solid flagship smartphone with a lot of new software or AI features and just a few hardware updates here and there. As such, it's rather hard to recommend it for those who have already bought the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. This is because we fully expect many of the software updates to trickle down to the rest of the Samsung Galaxy S series like the S24 series and S23 series. However, if you've always wanted a lighter, thinner, slimmer and longer-lasting Galaxy S Ultra, then the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is the one for you. Granted, it now looks like every other flagship with flat sides and less rounded corners, but it is now noticeably easier to carry about and use than all the other Galaxy S Ultra and Galaxy Note phones thus far.

My two weeks of testing the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra confirms several things for me. While most aspects of the phone, such as the vibrant, glare-free display and versatility across the cameras and AI features, are easy to appreciate, the upgrades this year feel iterative and safe. In ways, Samsung has even taken a few steps back, with the S Pen stylus no longer supporting Bluetooth controls and gestures, and the company opting for Qi2-ready cases instead of embedding the actual technology within its phones. Samsung may reason the absence of magnets with added weight and bulk, but it's inexcusable when Apple continues to make the iPhone slimmer while offering similar functionality.

The 12GB / 256GB model of the Galaxy S25 Ultra will set you back by Rs 129,999, while the top-end 1TB model costs a cool Rs 1,65,999. One thing that’s clear is that if you already use the Galaxy S24 Ultra, upgrading to the new model might not be worth it. From a competition perspective, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has to contend with the likes of the Vivo X200 Pro (review) and the OPPO Find X8 Pro, which are both very compelling in their own right, especially in the camera department. The new Xiaomi 15 Ultra looks quite promising too. And if you’re considering spending the kind of money Samsung is asking for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, you can’t ignore the iPhone 16 Pro Max (review). Foldables like Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Flip 6 (review) are also in the same ballpark in terms of the outlay.

Overall, the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a fantastic smartphone, no surprise there. My first thoughts about the design were not that impressed. But after using the Galaxy S25 Ultra for a few weeks, I changed my mind. This is easily the nicest S-Ultra design ever made. I love the way it sits in my hand, and it is very comfortable to hold. The display is outstanding and One UI 7 is a massive improvement over previous versions. I would say that it is worth upgrading if you want to spend the money. But if you don’t want to spend the money, you will be just fine with the S23 or S24. If you own the S22 and older, it is worth the upgrade.

Samsung’s new flagship handset is simply begging to be taken on a long-haul flight or lengthy train journey. Its big, bold screen, rich colours and crisp details liken it to a pocketable OLED TV, making it a great companion for portable movie watching. And, while we wish its musical performance had a touch more in the way of low-level dynamics, its clear and spacious sound should appease those looking to take their music library on the go.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra continues the tradition of the Ultra series, offering users top-notch specifications, advanced cameras, and deep integration of artificial intelligence. The main changes in this year's model concern not only the updated Snapdragon 8 Elite platform, but also the comfort of use: the smartphone has become lighter and more ergonomic. As for the camera, the main modules remain familiar, but a new ultra-wide-angle sensor has appeared, detail has improved, and additional video recording capabilities have appeared, including support for 8K LOG. Samsung's main bet this year is on artificial intelligence. Thanks to integration with Google Gemini, the smartphone has received a powerful AI assistant capable of performing complex tasks.

With solid build quality, powerful chipset, and seven years of feature and security updates, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is built to last long. Wi-Fi 7 and multi-band 5G support ensures you get to enjoy top-tier wireless connectivity for years to come. Of course, smartphone cameras are evolving fast, and the S25 Ultra is already starting to lag the competition, so it’s an area of concern. However, for the next few years, these cameras will remain highly competitive if not absolute best. The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s image output should be top tier even three or four years down the line. It will receive most of the new camera and AI features Samsung introduces in the coming years, so that front is covered too. The main question remains — is the Galaxy S25 Ultra worth your money?

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra delivered a solid performance in the DXOMARK Camera tests but was unable to secure a position among the very best in our ranking. An upgraded chipset (Snapdragon 8 Elite vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 2) and a higher pixel count on the ultra-wide camera (50MP vs 12MP) aside, the camera hardware specifications are very similar to the predecessor Galaxy S24 Ultra. The device was evaluated on multiple software updates (including the latest one before this publication), and in our tests, imaging performance improvements over the predecessor were only modest, despite slight improvements in software processing and some additional AI features. While the S25 Ultra maintained its predecessor’s solid overall image quality, some issues were noticeable.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra represents Samsung’s most refined vision of a flagship smartphone. It successfully balances seemingly contradictory goals—delivering a large display while remaining comfortable to hold, incorporating premium materials while improving sustainability, and offering professional-grade features while maintaining intuitive usability. At $1,299 for the base model, the S25 Ultra demands a premium investment. Still, Samsung’s seven-year software commitment effectively reduces the annual cost to around $185 when considered over the entire support lifecycle—a perspective transforming how we evaluate flagship pricing.

If you want something truly different… “It looks the same,” is what most people will say upon seeing the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. The say the same thing about the iPhone every year. This is despite the fact that Samsung increased the screen size and rounded the design. So, if you’re complaining about sameness, opt for the Z Fold 6. It has a larger screen (the S series can’t get much bigger than 6.9 inches without folding over) and it’s a very different take on the smartphone.

No one can deny the Galaxy S25 Ultra isn't a huge upgrade over the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and that it is still behind the curve in some regards, at least on paper. Even Galaxy S23 Ultra owners will not find the Galaxy S25 Ultra to be a substantial upgrade unless they find a fantastic trade-in deal. But that's the thing: this device isn't designed with customers who buy a new phone every year or two in mind. It's for folks who are using a Samsung flagship that launched three or more years ago. It's also a great choice for anyone buying their first flagship or upgrading from a mid-range or budget phone. The Galaxy S25 Ultra isn't exciting. But it's still a fantastic premium phone that does almost everything extremely well and is worth the price of admission. Unless you are an avid S Pen user — in that case you may want to get a Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is likely to be Samsung's last high-end phone with the full S Pen feature set.

Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra is the definitive premium Android smartphone... and it has a price to match, which is probably the only qualm; at $2150 ish as reviewed, it's quite an expensive handset, but considering it can do anything you want to throw at it... and will be updated for at least 7 years... I'd say it's a good investment.

I’m going to be completely blunt: the Galaxy S25 Ultra is Samsung’s tamest top-end entry yet. The minimal innovation introduced results in a lack of the wow factor that made its predecessors stand out. The improvements primarily focus on essentials, while everything else is largely carried over from the previous model. The removal of Bluetooth from the integrated S-Pen doesn’t help either. The fault here lies not with the Ultra, but with the brand itself. As I pointed out in my review of the Galaxy Z Flip6 last year, Samsung seems to have stopped challenging itself, opting instead for safer approaches. Honestly, I miss the days when the brand surprised everyone with new tech like built-in projectors, edge displays, and so on.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra doesn’t provide any groundbreaking upgrades compared to the previous model. To a certain level, the phone doesn’t feel like a downgrade. So, overall this year’s S25 Ultra is only 10 to 15% better than the S24 Ultra. We could actually say that it’s just an iterative upgrade. So, in my opinion, rather than getting the S25 Ultra right now, going with the S24 Ultra makes more sense if you are on a tight budget. Because sooner or later, the S24 Ultra will get the OneUI 7 update and S25 Ultra’s 15% improvement over the S24 Ultra will drop down to 10% because most of the software features are going to roll out to S24 Ultra too, and hopefully the camera optimizations too. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is easily one of the most powerful and stable premium flagship Android phones available so far. However, Samsung’s mishandling of its most popular product makes us worry about the future of Galaxy S series handsets. At a superficial level, the Galaxy S25 Ultra repeats the success of its predecessor. This year’s Ultra still offers top-tier daily performance in a more pleasant design, is thinner and lighter with great cameras, a long battery life, decent charging speeds, and impeccable polish in its hardware and software that few brands can hope to achieve. Frankly, if Samsung stopped there, this would have sufficed as a phone worthy of its name. Some niceties are the improved breadth of AI perks and the adoption of a deeper Bixby integration with Google’s Gemini Live.

At $1,300, it is challenging to give a straight purchase recommendation for the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The phone is indeed the fastest Samsung phone ever released, but the performance fell slightly behind that of its competitors despite using an allegedly faster variant of the same Snapdragon chip. One UI 7 brings some evolution after two upgrades that failed to innovate Samsung’s skin properly. However, the same changes should be arriving on previous Samsung flagships soon enough. But it’s a solid phone that does what you’d expect and more, plus some AI nonsense. I know some users are disappointed by the lack of significant improvements compared to last year’s model, and they’re right—the cameras, which we had been waiting for a year to see improved, have only seen minor changes. However, this doesn’t mean the smartphone has become worse. On the contrary, we got solid stereo sound, a top-tier display, good ergonomics (the body feels more comfortable compared to the Galaxy S24 Ultra), and a classic design that will appeal to most people. Additionally, there’s an intuitive interface, easy navigation in settings, and various AI features that simplify using the device (and let’s not forget the great feature—the stylus). Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a great performing device, and it produces excellent photos and videos. It’s a big device, which will be to the tastes of some, but perhaps put off others – I’d love Samsung to introduce a smaller Ultra variety, but perhaps it believes the market isn’t there. The native camera app has a lot going for it, including the AI editing suite which can really help to improve your photographs. So, what are the drawbacks then? Well, the biggest one is simply that it’s not much of an upgrade compared to the last model. There’s a minor improvement to the camera setup, while the aesthetics of the device have been changed a little. It’s not really enough to tempt existing S24 Ultra owners – aside from those who are super fans of the brand and probably pre-ordered it from the moment it was announced.

For Samsung buyers, there is no better option on the market. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is the pinnacle of the Samsung experience, which arguably makes it the majority experience among Android users. While I would opt for Google’s Pixel experience in most cases, we have to realize that Samsung sells a ton of phones and people love having the best of the best. And that best is the Galaxy Ultra series, which the S25 Ultra is ultimately a lovely addition to. The hardware is refined and beautiful (although it lacks any interesting color options), the cameras are versatile and able to capture lots of detail, and its software will continue to evolve for years. The only two true gripes were the somewhat disappointing battery life (which I think can be tweaked as I continue to use the device) and the camera’s shooting speed. It was basically the same story last year for the S24 Ultra, so my little fingers are crossed that for 2026, we eliminate these issues entirely.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra continues to be among the top devices for readability. With its anti-reflective coating and impressive luminance, it remains the device in our database that brings the best-in-class readability experience when outdoors. In our tests under bright sunlight, the device achieved a measured peak brightness of 2,600 nits, similar to the S24 Ultra. Although it delivered a great experience outdoors and good results indoor, the display was slightly too bright in low-light conditions.

Some may say the Galaxy S25 Ultra doesn’t look any different from the S24 Ultra. Well, they are not wrong. The S25 Ultra, as I mentioned before, is all about the new AI experiences—and Samsung isn’t hiding that. Honestly, it’s also a good thing. As a reviewer and a consumer myself, there came a point when the conversation was stuck on how the phone looked and the camera. I think the smartphone industry needed a reset moment, and now is the time. The software has been somewhat neglected on modern smartphones, and I’m glad that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is at least heading in that direction. However, I should mention that AI is still in its early stages, and the experiences are yet to be fully developed. The S25 Ultra is an enthusiast smartphone, and its AI capabilities are just the beginning of what’s to come.

Objectively, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is a fine phone. It's got one of the best displays available on any device today, regardless of form factor. It's got a competent camera system. It's got enough battery life to get you through a day in all but the most extreme of use cases. It'll see seven years of software support, a timespan that could see most of its users abandon it for something new well before that date ever shows up on a calendar. It's everything that makes up our most basic idea of what a smartphone should be. Shouldn't we ask for more than that, though? I'm not here looking for Samsung to revolutionize the very concept of mobile phones, but certainly, consumers should expect more out of their four-digit gadgets than this, right?

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra is great, offers some of the best photography, and has a sturdy build. This might be the best Android smartphone (or even smartphone in general) to launch this year, but it’s not perfect. I would fix the battery life and make the device slightly thinner – just get rid of that S Pen. The Snapdragon 8 Elite in the S25 Ultra provides a great experience and allows me to play games and watch videos that match my heart’s content. The S25 Ultra’s biggest problem is its price tag. At a base price of $1,918, this is undisputedly the most expensive flagship available in Canada. This price tag is crazy; it’s a downpayment on a used car, nearly the cost of a foldable phone (and those phones have two screens), and it’s too much money.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is their top-of-the-line Android phone for 2025 with every feature short of a folding display. New this year are a straight-sided design, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, improved ultra-wide camera and OneUI 7 on top of Android 15. As ever, there are lots of AI features including Google Gemini and a host of image editing capabilities.

On the whole, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra checks just about all of the boxes if you want the most well-rounded Android phone that money can buy. One UI 7 is infused with so much AI that you'll feel like you're living in the future, there's a rather welcome upgrade to the camera system, and it could've powered trips to the Moon in 1969 enough times that we'd almost be on the way to Mars. But, there's always a but. And there are enough of those that might make you want to think twice before making the leap.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a highly polished flagship phone that brings a number of measured yet key updates – a powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, tougher Gorilla Armor 2 glass that offers better clarity paired with a lighter titanium chassis and a bevy of AI enhancements across the board. While it isn’t as compelling an acquisition for those who already own the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it still maintains the edge one of the most powerful, desirable flagship phones of 2025.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Galaxy S25 Ultra is why you'd opt for it over the Galaxy S25 or 25+. Unless you're really into the S Pen and snap a lot of telephoto shots, you could probably opt for one of Samsung's very capable Galaxy S25 devices, depending on your display size preference. This year, the gap between Samsung's other devices and the Ultra is tiny, similar to the Pixel 9/9 Pro and the iPhone 16/iPhone 16 Pro. Whether the Galaxy S25 Ultra is truly worth it for you will depend on what Samsung device you're currently using. Those rocking a Galaxy S24 Ultra won't find much here, and the same can be said for Galaxy S23 Ultra owners to some extent. However, if you're using an earlier Galaxy Ultra phone, like the S20, S21, or S22, you'll get a lot out of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Despite the minimal upgrades, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is one of the most solid all-around smartphones Samsung has released in years.

Sure, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is an iterative update, but Samsung has made big improvements where it matters most, including introducing AI features that will save you time and make your life easier. The ability to perform actions across multiple apps at once using your voice has the potential to change how we interact with our phones forever. But it’s clear that Samsung needs to add more partners, both for this AI agent feature and for things like Now Bar. I’m less impressed with the Now Brief (at least until I spend more time with the phone), and I wish Samsung had included Qi2 magnets in the phone itself so you didn’t have to buy a case to connect to magnetic accessories.

Much like the Samsung Galaxy S25 and S25+, the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra plays it safe with very bland upgrades. You get slightly more rounded corners compared with the previous Ultra, and a new 50MP ultra-wide rear camera, and that's about it. Of course, that's not discounting the new Galaxy AI features, which basically bakes more of Google's Gemini AI into the OS. Furthermore, you do get a downgrade, as the S-Pen no longer supports Bluetooth, so you can't use it to take pictures remotely anymore. And I'm not sure just how much of this is useful to a normal phone user.

Despite being a modest update over the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the S25 Ultra is a great phone. Its camera's been leveled up with LOG capture and a higher-resolution ultra-wide, photos are more reliable across the entire zoom range, and the bigger screen and more streamlined design look and feel über-premium. It's also the only mainstream phone that ships with a pen, so even if the new AI features haven't blown us away, there's enough here to keep Samsung fans happy, and maybe even convert would-be-buyers (if they can get over the high price on launch).

The Ultra in the phone's name means that the S25 Ultra is supposed to be ultra at everything in terms of specs: Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 12GB of RAM, 5,000-mAh battery, two telephoto cameras, a stylus and, the true star of the phone, that screen. But the same can be said of last year's S24 Ultra, and a lot of what I just listed can be found on the regular S25 and S25 Plus. If you want the best screen you can find on any phone, get the S25 Ultra. If you want the most versatile phone cameras, get the S25 Ultra. If you want a stylus, get the S25 Ultra. But if your needs scale back on any of those fronts, the more affordable S25 options, or even last year's S24 Ultra, may be worth considering. All that to say, make sure you need an Ultra before you buy one, because Samsung has made its other phones just as good as the S25 Ultra in pretty much every other way.

Overall, the Galaxy S25 Ultra. On the surface, there aren’t that many changes compared to the S24 Ultra. It has a new, refined design that I think is much better, an arguably better screen as it has low reflectivity, and also magnificent colors and brightness. The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy does indeed show a bit of improvement over the 8 Gen 3, but it’s pretty mild. So, should you buy the Galaxy S25 Ultra? Yes, only if you’re coming from something like the Galaxy S22 Ultra or older.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a powerhouse and its performance, screen, and battery life will impress and satisfy most people who buy one. It’s also a phone that will last years due to its durability, software commitment, and wealth of features. However, as an expensive device all this isn’t noteworthy, it’s expected. This is where the S25 Ultra falls down. It does what’s required, but it doesn’t quite nail the extras that make it worth so much money, or a strong recommendation over some tough competition. The Now Brief and Galaxy AI have their uses, but not everyone is going to find them regularly useful. Many of its best AI features aren’t unique to the phone either. Then there are the omissions and cutbacks.

Samsung knows how to build a phone. The fit and finish of its latest flagship handsets are impressive, whether aluminum or titanium. The feel of the glass, the metal finish, and side button tactility are all best-in-class. Samsung's OLED displays are also above reproach, offering high brightness, excellent contrast even in low light, great saturation and amazingly low reflectivity, in the case of the Ultra. Last year's Samsung flagships were fast, but Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite sets a new standard for flagship performance. The thermal performance could be better, but the 8 Elite is so fast you should still see good performance even when the phones heat up. And if you care about AI, the Galaxy S25 series will really wow you.

The only reason I can really think of to upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is if you're rocking a really old handset and just need to catch up with the times. Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is indeed a power boost over previous generations, and quality everyday performance backs that up. A long-lasting battery will also remove unwanted stress from your life, and the camera array is generally pretty good at what it does. This is, in most ways that matter, a fine premium flagship phone. It's just difficult to find a reason to recommend the S25 Ultra to anyone else for any other reason. Its hardware changes are so iterative as to almost not exist, and whatever new AI features are here are more neat than life-changing. We might seriously need to rethink the whole annual release cycle if this is going to become the status quo.

Let’s start with the bottom line: Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 Ultra is both impressive and a bit underwhelming. As has been the trend in recent years with Samsung and its competitors, there are few external changes, with most of the innovations focused on software, particularly AI. That said, Samsung’s Ultra models have always offered strong specifications and advanced capabilities, leaving little room for dramatic upgrades. There’s good news even for those who don’t plan to upgrade: many of the new features will be available on older Samsung devices through future software updates.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra remains one of the best phones you can buy. The screen is excellent, the cameras are some of the best in the game, and you’ll have a hard time finding any workload tough enough to challenge it. That’s all been true of the last few Ultra phones, and it’s true of this one. But I think there’s something intangible that the Ultra has been losing over the past couple of generations. You can buy the Galaxy S25 Plus or the Pixel 9 Pro if you just want a good Android phone. The reason to buy a Galaxy S-series Ultra is because you don’t want something that’s just good; you want something that’s special. This phone feels a little less special than the S24 Ultra did, which felt a little less special than the S23 Ultra. Complaining about the “specialness” of a phone would be silly for any other phone.

In Mark’s Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra video review you'll find out just how good this flagship is, in fact, it actually beats the iPhone 16 Pro Max in multiple ways. Based on his testing, you get a brighter display, mostly better cameras (except macro), blazing performance and long battery life. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is a bit of a letdown. Yes, it's a great Android phone, it has all the bells and whistles, and it will probably be pretty popular throughout 2025. But, if you were looking for some meaningful upgrades over the S24 Ultra — you won't find them here. Even Samsung had trouble trying to stir up excitement for the S25 series, presenting AI features on-stage like they were the best thing since sliced bread... while they are mostly "Enhanced search". If this is a big leap of an upgrade for you, or your first premium smartphone, you will certainly be happy with it. To be completely honest, I wasn’t expecting to give the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra a very positive review. I’m a tech enthusiast, and I want to see innovation, not the same phone repackaged with minor upgrades year after year. However, after spending some quality time with it, it’s hard to fault. It might not be an exciting update, but this is still undoubtedly one of the best Android phones. It’s fast, looks good, takes great photos and videos, and the display is my absolute favourite. The battery might not be the biggest, and the charging certainly isn’t the fastest, but they’re still more than good enough. And if you love AI, nothing comes close to matching Samsung’s Galaxy AI right now. With that said, if you already have the S24 Ultra, there’s almost no reason to buy this phone.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is undoubtedly one of the best smartphones around right now, though it does have its drawbacks. I’m personally a big fan of the redesigned look of the phone, bringing the design in line with the rest of the Galaxy S25 Ultra range while also providing better purchase and a more comfortable grip, but conversely, it no longer stands out in a sea of similar-looking flagships. The screen continues to be a highlight of the Ultra experience with a larger 6.9-inch panel made possible by impossibly thin bezels unmatched by the rest of the S25 range. The camera hardware is similar to the S24 Ultra, but with improved processing and a new 50MP ultrawide, there are slight improvements to overall performance.

The S25 Ultra is a hugely versatile phone, but this edition of Samsung’s flagship is hard to get excited about. That’s because while it's one of the few handsets with an included stylus and a long 5x telephoto zoom, its general hardware and capabilities haven’t changed much since the previous generation. Or even two models back for that matter. Even so, the screens on Samsung phones are unrivaled while camera quality remains among the best. And while its battery hasn’t gotten bigger in years, longevity remains strong. Then you add in a new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with blazing performance and you get a phone that’s good at pretty much everything. But for $1,300, it better be able to deliver on all that and more. And it's that “and more” where the S25 Ultra’s value proposition gets a bit awkward.

Is the Galaxy S25 Ultra perfect? No, of course not. There’s no such thing as a perfect phone. But I do think this is the best Android phone for most people. It’s not the best camera, though the phone with the best camera isn’t sold in the US so that’s not helpful for us Americans. And it’s not the cheapest. But it does everything well enough. Samsung does have some pretty incredible pre-order deals still going on, where you can get the phone for as low as $399. And if you’re reading this after pre-orders end on February 6, Samsung does continue to have great deals on the Galaxy S25 series. Which is why we don’t generally factor in pricing to our review of Samsung phones, as you can typically get them for half off, or less. At $399, this is a pretty nice upgrade to have, but if you’re paying full price, that makes the decision a bit harder.

The ultimate (non-bendy) Galaxy traditionally has some big shoes to fill, and the S25 Ultra feels kind of loose in its pair. It's certainly anything but a bad phone - quite the competent one, in fact. It manages to extract pretty great endurance (out of a small-ish battery), has a very good display (in most ways), charges reasonably fast (in the right context), has an improved build (but missing some extra sealing), and remains the only truly viable option on the market if you want a stylus (even though the stylus itself is a downgrade this year). While we're okay with all those notes above, the fact that we have to make excuses for the Galaxy Ultra isn't good for optics.

My first impression of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra was that the emphasis was too much on AI and not enough on hardware advancements. After thoroughly testing it out, I feel vindicated in that assessment. The new Snapdragon 8 Elite is a speedy performer and LOG video is useful enough for a handful of people but, otherwise, there’s not much that physically asserts the S25 Ultra as drastically superior to the S24 Ultra. Ultimately, that means the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra falls short of feeling like the apex flagship. If you absolutely must have the fastest phone around, or the AI features excite you more than they do me, then the S25 Ultra may be for you. If you want a powerful phone with ridiculously good battery life, fantastic cameras and extensive software support, however, I’d save a few hundred quid and stick with the Galaxy S24 Ultra while it’s still on shelves.

Imagine you’re a company with a successful product line, and your customer data tells you that fewer than 1% of those customers actually use one of its features. Wouldn’t you remove it to make room for something more compelling to a wider range of people, maybe something to help you sell even more products? I'd wager that’s what Samsung was thinking when it deleted the least-sticky features from the signature S Pen on its latest phone. And the trouble it ran into is twofold: First, when you’re the scale of Samsung, 1% of users means 160,000 people (from the last year of sales alone) – the kind of customers already predisposed to get vocal about phones. And second, the company didn’t make a convincing case that it did anything compelling with the reclaimed space or component cost.

The Samsung S25 Ultra deftly manages to meld the consistent Galaxy S series aesthetic with all that made previous Ultras notable, including the S Pen. But this phone is also distinctly different to all previous Ultras, thanks to deep and richly baked-in generative AI capabilities. It's a fantastic mix that will please the most ardent Android, Samsung, and Google Gemini fans.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is an exercise in refinement, showcasing the best-of-best Android has to offer in 2025. The now iconic design has been upgraded with more screen thanks to less bezel, the new rounded corners bring enhanced comfort, while the camera gets a much-needed wide-angle boost. However, while the handset’s new AI features are a promising start, especially with Gemini integration for voice, they aren’t as world-changing as proposed – yet. Overall, the S25 Ultra represents a highly accomplished flagship that's going to be one tough phone to beat in 2025.

Instead of being a slam dunk like Samsung’s last few flagship phones, the S25 Ultra is teetering on the rim. I honestly wonder if the firm would’ve bothered if it didn’t have shareholders to appease with annual releases. The lightest of camera refreshes, a mild visual makeover, and a faster CPU simply don’t move things on enough from last year. It feels out of step on battery capacity now, after having been behind on charging speeds for a while, and rivals are starting to pull ahead on photography too. Galaxy AI now feels more tightly integrated into the experience, and is beginning to show its worth in a few areas, but I’m not convinced anything available at launch is truly a must-have just yet. Maybe that’ll change once Now Brief plays nicely with more third-party apps.

John breaks down everything different about the Galaxy S25 Ultra vs Galaxy S24 Ultra - to find out if the new upgrades are worth it.

So, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra may be much maligned for serving up similar specs as last year's massive S24. That camera hardware is slightly improved for 2025 with a 50MP ultra-wide sensor. However, besides that it's the same setup as before. The Galaxy S25 Ultra offers some new camera features like LOG recording and AI based editing tools, but that's about it. As far as physical bits are concerned, this Galaxy smartphone's design has been slightly refined and now boasts Snapdragon 8 Elite smarts. Combined with a massive vapor chamber, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a capable gaming phone for Wuthering Waves, Genshin Impact etc. Battery life is sadly lagging behind rivals, with identical charging speeds vs the S24 Ultra. As for the display and audio, not many changes in these departments for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra either. Owners of the old S24 flagship will struggle to notice a difference.

Most of Samsung’s new additions are software-based, given the company’s massive partnership with Google and its dogged pursuit of an AI-heavy approach to offering a renewed phone experience through One UI 7 and the Samsung Galaxy S25 series. Many of these features work well, assuming you care enough to use them regularly and rely on them to make a difference. There’s no dispute that the entire mobile AI experience feels most seamless on a Samsung device. This is in addition to the assurance of Samsung Knox security and integration into other Samsung products, such as SmartThings-enabled appliances or its wearables, like the Galaxy Ring. However, it remains to be seen how the Samsung Galaxy S25 series (especially the Ultra) truly adds value to existing Samsung flagship users. If you’re on an older Korean flagship, chances are you have already experienced many cool AI features seen there either as a download or add-on, or you’ve relied on older versions of its firmware (pre-One UI 7).

Our team is currently hard at work putting the new Galaxy S25 series of phones through their paces and we’ll have full reviews of each model coming very soon. It could well be that my time with the Galaxy S25 Ultra changes my tune and I uncover some part of it I think truly makes it worth the upgrade. More likely, however, is that I’ll remain resolute that there’s no better time than now to look past the latest flagships and shop in the refurbished section – for the sake of the planet as much as your wallet.

Most of the new AI features seem to revolve around Google Gemini, which is also available on cheaper phones such as the Xiaomi 14T Pro, so I'm a bit confused by the positioning here. Given how expensive the Galaxy S25 phones are compared with their Chinese rivals, they don't seem to have enough to stand out for now. But then again, I wonder just how much AI features people use, and whether these features drive adoption. My gut says probably not a lot. Prices start from S$1,288 for the Samsung Galaxy S25 (256GB), S$1,478 for the Galaxy S25+ (256GB), and S$1,828 for the Galaxy S25 Ultra (256GB). Pre-orders are now open till Feb 13. In other news, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is finally available now in Singapore at S$538. We hope to get the review units for these devices soon, so stay tuned.

That’s everything I got to test and analyze in my three hours with the Samsung Galaxy S25 series. I’m glad I took extra time to go back and test out the AI features because, at first blush, this phone does look similar to the S24 Ultra aside from the rounded corners. You’re going to hear that a lot from Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra reviews. But the Galaxy AI does have features AI consumers may actually care about, and that’s a step in the right direction for the buzzworthy tech trend.

Samsung's latest feature-packed flagship smartphone is shaping up to be a technical marvel, but we need to assess it further to see if it can rival its Sony and Apple adversaries. As we judge primarily on picture and sound, we will be putting the phone through its paces using various streaming apps in the coming days to see if Samsung can score the full five stars.

The thing is, this stuff isn’t exclusive to the S25 Ultra or even the S25 series. Samsung smartphone product manager Blake Gaiser told me Samsung will bring its new AI features to older devices where possible. The company certainly seems committed to delivering those updates to older phones — but don’t forget that they probably won’t always be free. We’ll find out soon enough whether this is the AI update that will finally deliver on the promise of AI on our smartphones; the Galaxy S25 Ultra and its S25 siblings ship on February 7th.

Looks may be deceiving, but Samsung made subtle changes with improved ergonomics and slimmer bezels to fit in a bigger display. Like last year, the biggest push is Galaxy AI, and Samsung has made it better with deeper Google Gemini integration and more features that users will appreciate from day-to-day use.

If you've got money to burn and want the best possible camera setup, check out that Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. This upgrades the ultra-wide to 50MP, while you get the same 200MP main shooter and dual lens telephoto camera arrangement as usual. This 6.9-inch behemoth of a phone also offers that S Pen stylus and more rugged design vs the S25 and Plus. All three boast a glorious Dynamic AMOLED 2X display that's pleasingly bright and poppy, although only the Ultra has that Armor 2 anti-reflection glass. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus sports the same QHD+ resolution, while all three are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite. So gamers should be satisfied, especially as Sammy has boosted the vapor chamber size. No changes in the battery setup however. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and its smaller siblings stick with the same capacity as the S24 series. Likewise, charging speeds haven't improved - although you do get Qi 2 wireless charging support in 2025.

It's another year of refinements for Samsung with the announcement of the Galaxy S25 series. The hardware remains great, but the company hasn't given much of a reason to upgrade, unless you're interested in personalized AI features. I've gone hands-on with all three phone, and have some thoughts. As with the Ultra, the Galaxy S25 and S25+ are available for pre-order starting today and will begin shipping on February 7, 2025. The smaller Galaxy S25 starts at $799.99 with 128GB of storage and is also available with 256GB. The Galaxy S25+ costs $999.99 with 256GB of storage, and the 512GB option costs a bit more. Both phones can be purchased in Navy, IcyBlue, Mint, or Silver Shadow, with Blueblack, Coralred, and Pinkgold options sold exclusively from Samsung's website.

At first glance, we had mixed feelings about Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series. While the hardware is solid as always, it doesn’t really push the envelope in terms of specs, which is somewhat disappointing. That being said, the customized Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC that powers these devices should deliver a nice boost in overall performance, along with improved thermals on the S25 Ultra. This should help to maintain performance during extended use. And again, some of the new AI features and functionality – like Gemini being able to interact directly with apps, and the “Personal Data Engine” secure, on-device LLM – is very intriguing. We’re looking forward to testing this in our forthcoming review.

Overall, while this might seem like an iterative update on the surface, the combination of the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, improved thermal management, and more sophisticated AI features makes this feel like a more substantial upgrade than in recent years. The Ultra,, with its improved ultra-wide camera and new build materials, is shaping up to be a compelling option for power users. The real test will be how all these AI features perform in daily use, and whether that new chip can maintain its performance over time. But from what we're seeing so far, Samsung seems to be taking meaningful steps forward, even if they're not all immediately visible on the surface.

The good news is that the rumors about price hikes weren't true, so the starting price of the entry-level configurations remains the same - €1,450/£1,250 for the S25 Ultra, €1,150/£1,000 for the S25+ and the vanilla asks €900/£800. The bad news is that all three offer modest upgrades over their predecessors, especially the S25 and the S25+. They both feel kind of neglected this time around. And while the S25 Ultra's new, more pocketable design is certainly exciting, the S Pen has lost its wireless connectivity features, which were the sole reason many of us here at GSMArena HQ took the stylus out to begin with. Samsung might as well do a full circle and offer a version without the stylus altogether. Anyway, one thing is clear - Samsung is betting big on AI and software polish and improvements, but it's early to say how this move will pan out regarding sales.

For a starting price of $899, the OnePlus 13 delivers some seriously good value -- possibly the best of all the major flagship phones I've tested lately. The company has improved the device in almost every way, from the design to the performance to its accessory ecosystem. I just wish OnePlus offered more extensive software support, as the OnePlus 13 will only receive four years of Android OS updates and six years of security updates. Samsung, Google, and Apple offer at least seven years of OS support. If you're interested in the OnePlus 13, the best deal I'm currently seeing is on the OnePlus website, as the company is offering a free OnePlus Watch 2 (valued at $299), a free storage upgrade (valued at $100), and at least $100 off when you trade in any phone in any condition.

I’m excited to try out some of the new features on the Galaxy S25 Ultra but I’m left with some lingering thoughts and concerns. The hardware is largely the same as before so I expect the image quality to follow suit and give us a similar experience to the S24 Ultra. However, the experience of using the dramatically faster AI tools was way more pleasurable than before and the video features look to be markedly improved. I’m eager to test the S25 Ultra in the coming days and see how far it has come but I can’t help but feel like Samsung is still playing a game of catch-up, in particular to the iPhone 16 Pro. Samsung seems to be trying to at least match the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max in most arenas but I don’t think it will surpass it in any major ways.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is now available for pre-order and will officially release on February 7th. In Canada, all three handsets have seen a price increase. The S25 starts at $1,198 CAD, the S25+ at $1,438.99, and the S25 Ultra at the insane price of $1,918.99; we can blame this on our dollar. Although the U.S. price for the S25 Ultra starts at $1,299, which converts to $1,862 CAD, so it looks like there’s a bit of a Canadian premium. I expect a similar experience to last year’s phones, but I hope these AI features will surprise me and upgrade the experience. I’ll put the S25 Ultra through its paces for the next two weeks. In the comments below, let us know what you think about the S25 series.

Samsung gives us "more of the same" with the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Plus, while simultaneously improving some of the key areas that usually matter… and that's not bad, not bad at all! After all, Samsung has been figuratively killing it with its flagship in the past few years and seemingly feels quite comfortable releasing consistently great phones, arguably the best Android ones you can get your hands on. Sure, one might argue that the company is no longer bold and its flagships are nowadays boring, yet we can't argue that Samsung has been continuously perfecting the formula. As to which one should you get, that's entirely up to your size and feature needs: the Galaxy S25 Ultra is definitely the upper-tier and more feature-rich phone, with more head-turning aspects to it that will make it that much more premium than the Galaxy S25 Plus.

Well, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be undoubtedly good. Powerful new chip, new and modernized Samsung UI, awesome display and speakers. That also kind of sounds like a Galaxy S24 Ultra. So yes, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be a great buy that will make any smartphone fan happy, we also recommend keeping an eye on the Galaxy S24 Ultra prices after the new series launches. You might score a great deal.
