If you do want to stick with Android, though, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus still makes a fine choice. The display, features, battery life and performance are all top notch and, although the camera can’t quite beat the iPhone 11 Pro for all-round performance (or the pricier S20 Ultra), there isn’t a massive amount of difference. You’ll be happy with the results, either way. Ultimately, you’ll be choosing the Galaxy S20 Plus because you want the best an Android phone has to offer but can’t quite justify the £200 extra for the Ultra. If you do that you won’t be disappointed. Just don’t expect to be blown away.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is a nearly-perfect smartphone that connects to more 5G networks and has better cameras than ever, though you’ll be paying for the privilege, as this is the priciest Plus smartphone yet. If you don’t mind ho-hum design, the phone handles anything you throw at it, and should last you years - especially assuming 5G networks stay compatible with the S20 Plus as they build out.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is one of the most well-rounded smartphones I've used in years. Not really a standout phone at the time of its release, the mid-size Samsung flagship of 2020 may end up being a more sensible buy in 2021. We'll know for sure in about a month's time.

The Galaxy S20 Plus represents Samsung’s best mix of high-end features and still-attainable price, at least if you’re all right with paying $1,199 for a phone. It’s got better battery life than the less expensive Galaxy S20 and comes close enough to matching the S20 Ultra so that you won’t feel short-changed if you opt for this model. The Galaxy S20 Plus definitely tests the upper limits of what mainstream smartphone shoppers should be willing to pay for a handset, but overall this the best S20 model of the three in terms of what you get for the money.

If you’re looking for a flagship phone with category-leading speakers, the Galaxy S20+ isn’t it, especially if you want to pump out bass. The sound it does provide, though, is fairly well balanced and features solid mid-tones and treble. Speaker placement is good and helps prevent accidental occlusion. As far as use cases go, its playback performance for listening to music is a bit stronger than for watching movies or gaming.

If you’re looking for an advanced camera phone from a well-established manufacturer at a lower cost than a premium flagship, Samsung’s Galaxy S20+ fits the bill. Its quad-camera offers dedicated wide, ultra-wide, zoom, and bokeh sensors, and in many respects its image quality is comparable to the more expensive Samsung S20 Ultra. Its ultra-wide camera and bokeh shots are particularly impressive, and exposure and color are excellent from all its cameras in virtually all lighting conditions. Autofocus is accurate and reliable, and detail is good, even if a bit oversharpened.

Samsung's Galaxy S20 range is a safe bet, if not a little on the expensive side. While so many smartphones are available at a lower price point, Samsung's range just about defines the category for the year ahead these days - the right combination of features, capability, bells and whistles and longevity; one of the few brands that has software updates for a good while, with good retail support, good accessory support and more. If you can afford one, it's a purchase that'll easily last a couple of years.

The S20+ I feel is a proper successor to the S10+, and I’m even willing to switch over to it as a daily device. The 120Hz screen remains incredible no matter the battery life impact, and the cameras are still plenty good, even if not class-leading. The users in Snapdragon markets in particular end up with a device that makes very few compromises and is seemingly worthy of being a top class 2020 flagship. I just hope that Samsung will be able to resolve the camera discrepancies between the different models, as well as generally improve the camera picture quality over the coming months. If they achieve this, then I feel that the new phones would warrant their release price tags.

The Samsung Galaxy S20+ experience can be summed up in one word – Dependable. From the design to the software to the cameras to the battery, wherever you go you will find consistency in thought and as a consequence, it makes things work, without effort. The Galaxy S20+ might not share the same spotlight as the S20 Ultra, but it is by all means still an extremely capable flagship with the bells and whistles you’d expect from a modern flagship, best of all it is significantly more affordable than the Galaxy S20 Ultra and what you are only losing out is 5G connectivity and that ‘100x space zoom’ camera, which you probably won’t get to use the former till next year and when that time comes, it still isn’t too late to be an early adopter of 5G.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S20+ is a great phone, as long as you can get over its $1,200 price tag. Personally, if I had to choose between the S20 and the S20+, I’d go with the smaller sibling. The S20 and S20+ are basically the same phone, aside from their differences in size, battery and mmWave support. The Plus also has an additional depth sensor on its back for slightly better portrait mode and AR effects. Are those features worth the extra $200 for the larger phone? Only if you really want a bigger screen, extra long battery and super fast 5G on T-Mobile. Verizon offers a mmWave-compatible S20, so your decision will also depend on what carrier you’re on. For most people, though the base S20 is plenty of phone. In the case of this year’s S20 trio, smaller is so much better. I felt like the Ultra was overkill when it came to size, camera features and most importantly, price. At $1,000, the S20 costs about the same as its competitors, though the S20+ still comes in at a premium. But they’re also the best-looking Android flagships around with speedy performance and long battery life. For that money, you’ll also be getting excellent displays and blazing 5G speeds where available. If $1,000 is too much for you, you might want to wait for other options like the rumored Pixel 4a or consider the S10 series, which could offer most of what you need for a fraction of the price. Right now, though, the S20 and S20+ are the best Android phones money can buy.

As someone who still owns – and loves – a Galaxy S9+, who lives and breathes Samsung, who used an S10 for a while and a Note 9 for four solid months, the S20 is… underwhelming. It’s very much an iteration on what’s come before – and it comes at the cost of numerous omissions. Compared to the S9/Note9 series, you’re missing that much-loved audio jack, you’re missing fast capacitive fingerprint scanning, you’re missing heart and blood sensors, you’re missing iris scanning. Compared to the S10, you’re missing that jack and you’re missing a real telephoto camera.

The Galaxy S20+ might seem very expensive, but Samsung has actually priced it the same as the Galaxy S10+, when it launched a year ago. From that perspective, the Galaxy S20+ offers improved design and performance across the board, which makes it a worthy upgrade. Some of its stand-out features include the new zoom system for the rear cameras, the excellent display, solid battery life, and a sleeker design. Other things such as reverse wireless charging, the stereo speakers, and the lean software make this a very good package to consider.

The Galaxy S20+ is no doubt an excellent flagship, which looks stylish and works flawlessly. I was most impressed by the camera for the most part. The selfie camera is what really needs to improve, and quickly. If you were waiting to upgrade from your S9 or S8, I would say the S20+ is an excellent pick on that front, unless you want to wait and see if the S20 Ultra and its 108MP camera is a better option.

Samsung's Galaxy S20+ is the gold standard for phones in 2020. It features a great design, an excellent display, a powerful processor, a reliable battery, and solid camera performance. It's hard not to recommend the handset.

The new S20 phones are shaping up to be very capable phones, even if they don't deliver anything super groundbreaking outside of the camera capabilities. As before, they're iterative upgrades on their predecessors, but they come with vital quality of life improvements, such as the higher refresh rate and more responsive display and smaller hole-punch camera. They're not life-changing, but they do matter, and of course Samsung has continued to improve the camera while still creating one of the sleekest-looking Android phones around.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is the successor to our favorite phone of 2019, and this version packs a bigger display, better cameras, more battery life and fast 5G speeds. It's outclassed by the new Galaxy S20 Ultra, so it's no longer Samsung's biggest, but it may be the best fit for people who don't want to deal with the Ultra's price and heft.

And then there's the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which is an absolute beast of a phone with more memory than most people will need. The Cosmic Black model is gorgeous, especially since the silver frame has been replaced with a black one for an even more stealthy look.

In the meantime, you can also acquire the Galaxy S20+ in other hues as Samsung Malaysia is offering the phone and its siblings in Cosmic Gray, Cosmic Blue and Cosmic Pink though for the time being, Cosmic Black version for all three phones has temporarily been sold out. You can check out the preorder details on Samsung’s official page here. You can also check out the slick commercial below.

That's right; all the models available in Singapore will only have an internal base storage of 128GB. While the Galaxy S20 does not have any other capacity points, the S20+ and S20 Ultra have other storage options in other launch countries. Fortunately, a microSD card slot is present and can accept cards of up to 1TB in size.

It’s not all just pure hardware though, Samsung has also added a very useful One Take feature that captures a shot using every conceivable mode and filter on the phone with just one press of a button so that you needn’t have to get your subject to continue reposing all the time. This feature is amazing, more so when pressed for time and you need to capture a lot of different footage styles.

I can see the S20 Plus being the most popular of the new trio of the S20 devices, even though it lacks the full-blown spec-fest of the Ultra. It’s a decent size, its battery should comfortably get you through the day, and it’s purely a 5G device.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is a capable successor to our favorite phone of 2019, with improvements including top-end display features, a high-res zoom camera, and a suite of video capture features. Some people might appreciate the 5G connectivity too. However in some other ways it just seems like an obligatory yearly upgrade.

Of the three phones, the Galaxy S20 is the most compact and manageable, and many potential buyers will find this appealing, as we did. However, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is by far the most interesting of the three, even though its the most unwieldy and will be much more expensive. We're eager to test Samsung's new 108-megapixel sensor and also the hybrid zoom systems in all three phones, so stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for that.

We’ll keep you posted on local prices, the usual preorder goodies and other details when we get them from Samsung Malaysia.

Samsung’s aim with the Galaxy S20 lineup is to offer something for all customers across the entire flagship spectrum. So it has stuffed the new models with the latest in mobile technology while leaving enough of a gap between the models so that they don’t end up cannibalizing each other’s sales.

There's little doubt that the Galaxy S20+ will be a good phone - but there's a lot of questions around performance that still need to be answered. The important factors - whether the camera performs and the battery life delivers - will have to wait until we have spent more time with this phone. But unlike 2019, there's a chance that this model will be overshadowed by the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung's super-spec phone that sits above it.

Even though the Galaxy S20 Ultra is definitely going to soak up most of the spotlight at this unveiling, with its fancy new 108MP and periscope cameras, we have very little to complain about the regular S20 and the S20+. Growth-spurt aside, the pair actually looks all round better in most aspects compared to its predecessors. An achievement, which, like we already mentioned, should not be taken lightly. We only Samsung has done something different to the design of these babies. Oh, and where's the white color this time around, Samsung? Sigh, we can't have it all.

After largely resisting the recent trend toward pricier flagships, Samsung has thrown caution to the wind with the S20 trio, releasing the most advanced smartphones it has ever made. And while the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus may not have the S20 Ultra's attention-grabbing 108MP main camera, it has enough of everything else — the quartet of lenses, the top-of-the-line processor, the roomy screen and the comprehensive 5G support — that it could wind up being a better value than that range-topping model.
