The Moto G5 Plus is good value for money, but the camera disappoints and there’s no Android Pay in the US. The Moto range offers premium-smartphone looks and features at very low prices, and the Moto G5 Plus is no exception. This 2018 refresh of the G4 Plus has been improved inside and out, and it’s cheaper than the outgoing G4 Plus too. It’s just odd that US customers don’t get the same NFC features that everybody else in the world can get.

Moto G5 Plus lived up to our expectations for one of the best models in the middle range. It has nice appearance with metal construction and fingerprint sensor in the front part. The screen resolution is again Full HD but its diagonal is 5.2 inches, which suggests more comfortable operation with one hand, as well as better image detail. The battery has again a capacity of 3000mAh but improvement in the durability can be clearly seen.

The Moto G5 Plus is somewhere in-between. It’s not the best value you can get for a smartphone, and it’s not the most innovative smartphone out there, but it’s a decent balance of the two. If you’re looking for something better than a budget device, but can’t quite go to a $700 phone, it’s a good compromise.

For many people, it may come down to which carrier they prefer. And since the Blade V8 Pro and the Honor 6X won't work on Verizon or Sprint, that makes the G5 Plus an easy pick. But on top of that, if you are an Amazon Prime member, the G5 Plus' discounted price of $185 for the 2GB/32GB model or $240 for the 4GB/64GB version makes this phone a steal, especially the model with more RAM and extra storage (even with Amazon's special deals). Regardless of your carrier or your Amazon Prime status, though, the G5 Plus is definitely one of the best budget phones you can get right now.

By all means, the Moto G5 Plus is not a perfect mid-range phone. There's the weird panorama feature which I think would disappoint some phoneography enthusiasts, same goes to consumers who are into selfies since there's no beauty mode to be found. But other than that, there's nothing much to complain about the device. It has a nearly perfect camera, good battery life and charging, no heating issue after a few minutes of gaming, and convenient ways to open apps by using the shaking motion sensor. So looking from a camera-angle point of view, it is actually more value than the RM1299 price tag it is going for.

If you can look past the not so attractive design of the Moto G5 Plus, the beauty lies in the user experience of the product itself, there has been no indication of how much Lenovo intends to sell the device in Malaysia, it is already on sale in India at the price of 14,999.00 Rupees, which translates to around MYR990. If the G5 Plus is priced below RM1,000, I’m sold. We’ll be back with the full review of the Moto G5 Plus once we get hold of a review unit.

As the phone that single-handedly created the quality budget smartphone category, we hold the Moto G in high regard and also have high expectations from very new device in the lineup. The Moto G5 we tested earlier didn't quite meet our expectations in that regard. However, the G5 Plus hits the mark and reminds us again why we love this series. It's far from perfect and there are areas where we would like to see it improve. We could use a bit more power under the hood. The design could bit a bit more compact and make better use of space. The design itself could also stand to improve aesthetically as recent models have taken to a more drab appearance. And how about a USB-C connector next time?

The Moto G5 Plus looks way out of its class. Where else are you going to pay $229 for a phone that’s made of metal? Better yet, where else are you going to pay $229 for a phone that’s anywhere close to the Moto G5 Plus on paper? Lenovo’s latest mid-range offering is one of a kind. The design is remarkable considering the price, the performance is as smooth as a $400+ phone, and the battery life goes the distance. Not a single company or phone can compete.

The Moto G5 Plus is priced at $229 for the 32 GB storage and 2 GB of RAM of model, while the higher-end version with 64 GB of storage and 4 GB of RAM will set you back $299. This is the same price tier as its predecessors, and it does feel like you get a little more each and every year despite the unchanging price point. Granted, this is in part due to technology continuing to get better and cheaper, but a lot also has to do with the ever increasing competition in this space.

The Moto G5 Plus is not without its flaws. It is clearly inferior to its competition in some aspects, with the dull display and design particularly being a disappointment. Despite its flaws though, it is an excellent mid-range handset. The excellent combination of hardware, software, and camera setup ensures that the G5 Plus will age well unlike many other devices out there. As for its camera performance, while it is impressive, there is still room for improvement here.

Another year, another pair of great affordable handsets from Motorola. The smaller, 5-inch Moto G5 offers reliable performance thanks to Android 7.0 Nougat, and a surprisingly good 13-megapixel camera. The design is a little uninspiring and the display is hard to read in direct sunlight, but this little smartphone does everything you need it to for a bargain price.

It's easy to pick up the very wrong impression that there's not much to look forward to in the mid-range smartphone space, like it's some dumping ground for leftover components, offers uninspired hardware design at best, and aims little higher than giving shoppers phone choices that are “good enough” without going much further.

Overall we're really impressed by the design of the Moto G5 Plus and the specs are good considering the price tag, but we'd still consider opting for the G5 instead. It's a whole £80 cheaper and we’re not sure the extra power and improved camera are worth that extra cash. The 0.2in difference in screen size is hardly noticeable, either. That's not to say this isn't a good mid-range phone, though. It can certainly compete with the Galaxy A3 and the Nokia 6, but so can the Moto G5 with that lower price. It's a tricky one to recommend when its smaller and cheaper sibling is so great!

If you're looking for a great phone that won't break the bank, the Motorola Moto G5 Plus checks all the boxes. It has a premium metal build, a sharp display, long battery life, a solid good camera, up-to-date software, and some pretty cool unique features. Whether you pay $185 for the Amazon Prime version, or $300 for the fully loaded model reviewed here, you get more bang for your buck than the $250 Honor 6X. Yes, the Axon 7 has a faster processor and a higher-resolution display, but it also costs more and you can't use it on Sprint or Verizon. So if you're shopping for a new phone and $300 (or even $200) is the top of your budget, you can't beat the Moto G5 Plus. That makes it an Editors' Choice.

OK, while none of these are a deal breaker for me, there are some things I find annoying. The G5 Plus has NFC and that means you can use Android Pay -- unless you live in the US. Why doesn't the US get NFC? I don't know. A spokesperson for Motorola said that "in the US, NFC capabilities are in less demand within the value tier." Still, it's a bit of a bummer.

Motorola has a winner in the Moto G5 Plus. The phone isn't perfect, and yet it delivers a consistent and enjoyable experience no matter how you look at it. Motorola traded in the cheap, flashy plastics of older G series handsets for finer, more sedate metals in the G5 Plus. The result is a pleasing handset that looks and feels better than the price point. The phone has a great full HD screen, excellent build quality, and a nice size/weight. Everyone will be happy with the battery life and wireless performance, though call quality was a bit of a drag.

Absolutely. But buy it for the overall experience, and especially for that clean Android Nougat. Although the Moto G5 Plus performs well in all areas and has a nice enough design, its biggest strength remains its overall experience. Once again it is a Moto G, which is bigger than any one single part. Its camera is one of the best we have seen in this price bracket and its performance is fantastic, complete with the clean Android. Priced at Rs 14,999/Rs 16,999, the Moto G5 Plus is a great device in the budget phone segment but faces a lot of competition from the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Honor 6X, and the Nubia N1, all priced considerably lower. Interestingly, each of those has an ace up its sleeves (the Note 4 and N1 have huge batteries, the 6X dual cameras and so on), and this is where the Moto G5 Plus lags – it does a lot of things very well but nothing really jumps out at you as being, well, specially special. The phone also faces stiff competition from the smartphone from its sister brand, the Lenovo Z2 Plus which comes with a hell of a spec sheet in the same price point. But then, just go back to what we said at the beginning:

Yes, we do think this is the best camera we have seen so far on any Moto G phone. And it is good enough to be one of the strong points of the phone, especially among those who do not like crowded interfaces and believe in hardcore point and shooting. That said, we think that those who were expecting picture quality that would be close to that of the Galaxy S7, the Pixel and OnePlus 3T, will be disappointed. The Moto G5 Plus is a steady, simple point and shooter, and takes its place alongside the likes of the dual camera Honor 6X in being the benchmark for photographic quality in the sub-Rs 20,000 (and in the case of its lower priced edition, sub-Rs.15,000) price range. If your needs are as simple as pointing, saying cheese and shooting, this is one of the better cameras at its price point!

Ditching the plastic body is a correct move by Motorola, it is high time budget devices got the premium quality appearance as midrange and flagship devices. In the G5 Plus, Motorola has a phone that can be even more successful than its predecessor. It has everything that we liked from the G4 Plus and comes with a few extras.

Overall, the Moto G5 Plus gives a mix impressions. On one hand, it does gives a premium look, but on the other, the design looks a tad similar to Honor 5C. The device has a compact form factor, a clean user interface which is a welcome move, but still faces a stiff competition from the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and Honor 6X that deliver good performance in almost all the departments and are priced less than G5 Plus.

At Rs 16,999, there’s little that the Moto G5 Plus gets wrong. It has a primary camera that impressed with every click. Gaming performance is surprisingly good and consistent. The battery comfortably lasts a day and coupled with Moto’s TurboPower charging, there’s going to be very few reasons to ever run out of juice. The Moto G5 Plus is a solid option for anyone who is looking for an all you do good performer that is excellent value for money.

If you are looking for a new budget-friendly smartphone, the Moto G5 Plus ticks most of the boxes. It will be going on sale online exclusively on Flipkart. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (Review), our top pick in the budget smartphone segment, is regularly out of stock, and the Moto G5 Plus could be a decent alternative if availability isn't an issue, as promised by the company.

The Moto G5 Plus is a worthy addition to the family. It maintains the high standard set by its predecessors and improves in meaningful ways. Be it the metal construction, the improved camera module or just consistently good performance, there’s a lot to like here.

The Moto G5 Plus is more expensive this time, but it also has a vastly improved camera. It produces impressive contrast and dynamic range, taking photos that other phones in its category can't. This is complemented by impressive battery life and dependable performance. If Motorola had added waterproofing to this device, it would have been an absolute knockout.

Overall we’re really impressed by the design of the Moto G5 Plus and the specs are good considering the price tag, but we’d still consider opting for the G5 instead. It’s a whole £90 cheaper and we’re not sure the extra power and improved camera are worth that extra cash. The 0.2in difference in screen size is hardly noticeable, either.

Anyway, while other announcements garnered most of the hype, we have a feeling the Moto G5 and G5 Plus will prove to be some of the best phones to come out of this year's MWC.

The Moto G5 Plus is a really interesting prospect. When once the mid-range market was awash with so-so phones, this near-£250 device sets out a strong stall of specs and style, in a category where many of the previous front runners are now up and away at the £400 price point. It clears the decks somewhat, leaving Motorola to take advantage.

There’s no pretending these phones are anything even close to flagships in specs, but they certainly look the part. Samsung has successfully delivered its premium design to the Galaxy A series and the same approach will likely work wonders for Lenovo too. They deliver the same tried-and-true recipe the Moto G series has become famous for, but they do it in a style typically reserved for flagship phones. And that sounds like a recipe worth repeating.
