O Intel Pentium 5405U é um SoC (ultra baixa voltagem) dual-core baseado na arquitectura Whiskey-Lake e foi lançado em Janeiro de 2019. O CPU pode ser encontrado em ultra-livros, bem como em computadores portáteis normais. Para além de dois núcleos de CPU com Hyper-Threading clock a 2,3 GHz (sem Turbo Boost), o chip também integra uma GPU HD 610 e um controlador de memória DDR4-2133/DDR3L-1600 de duplo canal. O SoC é fabricado utilizando um processo de 14 nm com transístores FinFET (14nm++).
A Intel utiliza basicamente a mesma micro arquitectura comparada com a Skylake, pelo que o desempenho por-MHz não difere. O fabricante apenas retrabalhou a tecnologia Speed Shift para ajustes dinâmicos mais rápidos de tensões e relógios, e o processo melhorado de 14nm permite frequências muito mais altas combinadas com melhor eficiência do que antes. Em comparação com o Kaby-Lake Refresh, o Whiskey Lake apresenta apenas um processo ligeiramente melhorado de 14nm+ para 14nm+++.
Em comparação com o Pentium Gold 4415U mais antigo com a mesma velocidade de relógio, o desempenho deve ser bastante semelhante e, portanto, no nível de entrada. Ainda assim, o CPU tem potência suficiente para fins de escritório e multimédia, bem como para aplicações um pouco mais exigentes. A versão de 12,5 Watt está a funcionar apenas a 800 MHz e é, portanto, significativamente mais lenta.
A unidade gráfica integrada chamada HD Graphics 610 (semelhante à HD Graphics 510) representa a versão "GT1" da GPU Whiskey Lake (Intel Gen. 9). As suas 12 Unidades de Execução, também chamadas EUs, são cronometradas a 300 - 950 MHz e oferecem um desempenho um pouco abaixo do antigo HD Graphics 4400. Apenas alguns jogos de 2018 podem ser jogados suavemente nas definições mais baixas.
Especificado num TDP de 15 W (incluindo CPU, GPU e controlador de memória), o CPU é mais adequado para pequenos computadores portáteis e ultra-portáteis (11 polegadas ou mais). Opcionalmente, o TDP pode ser reduzido para 12,5 watts (cTDP down), reduzindo tanto a dissipação de calor como o desempenho (apenas funcionando a 800 MHz) e permitindo desenhos ainda mais compactos.
