Dois anos é uma eternidade em termos de computação, e passou mais ou menos esse tempo desde que vimos mudanças significativas no design destes ultra portáveis de gama alta da Toshiba. Apesar da carcaça antiga, o Z30t-B1320 é suficientemente portável, com 1,33 kg (2,92 lbs.) para continuar sendo relevante — e graças à inteligente construção de magnésio e boa seleção de portas, e o que resta ver são os componentes internos.

Reforçado pela atualização para um chipset Broadwell, este é o melhor Z30 até hoje. É mais que capaz, com ótimas pontuações de desempenho geral, longas durações da bateria, e temperaturas frias da carcaça (com ventoinha localizada de forma conveniente e design térmico efetivo). Os dispositivos de entrada também continuam sendo bastante bons, e a tela tem ótima reprodução de cores, resolução adequada, e bons valores de brilho/contraste.

Certamente existem algumas deficiências. Para começar, a tela táctil — apesar de todos seus méritos — é inibida por uma qualidade de imagem incrivelmente granulada graças ao filtro de difusão de reflexo com o qual está revestida (o que resulta em um acabamento semi mate). A carcaça — embora bastante estável — possui uma tampa de tela bastante frágil, que se flexiona muito facilmente. A manutenção ainda é ridiculamente obtusa, com parafusos ocultos embaixo de múltiplos pés de borracha — incrivelmente taboo para uma máquina empresarial supostamente de gama alta. Finalmente, os alto falantes são inferiores em comparação com os de alguns concorrentes, com uma saída se som diminuto e sem baixos.

Além disso, a concorrência somente aumentou ao redor do Z30t. A série Dell Latitude 7000e as máquinas ThinkPad ainda lideram o mundo dos dispositivos de entrada, e as carcaças também parecem ser mais sólidos — sem mencionar que sua manutenção é mais fácil. Os HP EliteBooks são caros, mas vale a penas tê-los em consideração, se estiver no mercado. E algumas máquinas de grau de consumidor — apesar de que não possuem portas Ethernet e para estações docking station — conseguiram atingir o mundo corporativo, como o XPS 13 com uma das pontuações mais altas.

No entanto, o Portege Z30t ainda é um contendor sólido, e um que merece muita consideração, apesar de seu design antigo.
