A HP acertou em cheio com o Omen X 17. A marca Omen evoluiu de estar em uma obscuridade para um grande concorrente de jogos em poucos anos, e o X 17 é o pináculo da linha até agora. Há várias coisas que o Omen X 17 faz certo, mas também há algumas que ficam aquém do alvo.
O teclado mecânico é excelente e uma das melhores implementações que já vimos em um portátil até agora. O deslocamento das teclas a e a resistência estão muito bem definidas, e enquanto os veteranos digitadores de portátil podem precisar de algum tempo para se acostumar com a forma de tecla chanfrada, muitos gostarão do teclado. Os modos de iluminação RGB são divertidos para brincar e adicionam um toque agradável ao chassi, de outra forma, incolor. Esse chassi é sólido, rígido e se sente como um tanque premium que suportará o teste do tempo. A bateria 99 Wh tem uma boa duração considerando a concorrência. Enquanto a maioria dos portáteis de jogos tem sorte de durar 2 horas, o tempo de duração de mais de 5 horas do Omen X permite que usuários possam trabalhar na estrada (quando necessário).
A tela de 120 Hz G-Sync é uma grande vantagem. Juntamente com os componentes internos poderosos, a tela permite uma jogabilidade suave e fluente. Jogadores e entusiastas competitivos encontrarão que a taxa de atualização de 120 Hz aumenta sua experiência de jogo para o próximo nível, tanto que voltar a um painel padrão de 60 Hz pode ser difícil. O excelente sistema de resfriamento também mantém o corpo do portátil perfeitamente confortável durante essas longas sessões de jogo.
Infelizmente, o Omen X sofre dos mesmos males que outros portáteis de jogos de gama alta. O dispositivo é maciço, e sua fonte de alimentação é quase ridiculamente grande. Isso torna o Omen X 17 mais de um "substituto de desktop" do que um portátil; O Omen X 17 é uma máquina que provavelmente passará a maior parte do tempo em uma mesa do que na estrada. A CPU com capacidade de overclock é uma bela opção, mas o overclocking é limitado pelo pobre desempenho térmico da CPU quando está sob uso intenso. Não tem muito sentido gastar dinheiro extra em uma CPU com overclock se não pode usar esse recurso, mas lembre-se que nem todas as CPUs têm o mesmo nível. Outros usuários podem ter mais sorte.
Tendo dito isso, o HP Omen X 17 é um tipo de portátil de jogos "Poli funcional" que marca quase todas as caixas de verificação neste lado do mercado. O desempenho dos jogos não é o melhor na sua classe, mas deve ser bom o suficiente. Considere a tela com taxa de atualização alta, o chassi bem construído que permanece frio sob pressão, e o excelente teclado, e o Omen X 17 deve ser considerado um dos pacotes mais completos no mercado, hoje em dia.
