Contra
O SC17 original com GTX 980M se destacou pelo seu foco no overclocking enquanto fornece uma plataforma muito sólida que é muito mais portável que um GT72, G752 equivalente, ou Clevo barebone. Agora que a maioria dos fabricantes de jogos atualizaram seus respectivos portáteis para Pascal, a mais recente atualização SC17 não oferece suficiente para torná-lo uma compra indispensável. Os fabricantes como MSI e Aorus tomou a oportunidade de adicionar ainda mais recursos, além de uma simples atualização da GPU, como telas de 5 ms/120 Hz, G-Sync, RAID, teclas RGB individualmente iluminadas, teclas Macro e auxiliares, Thunderbolt 3, e outras que o SC17 não possui. O EVGA nem sequer tem um simples leitor de cartões, assim como o vindouro Razer Blade 14 or Blade Pro 17.
O desempenho e especialmente a qualidade de construção refletem a faixa de preços premium, mas está se tornando mais difícil disfarçar a sensação barebone do SC17.
