A Dell fez um excelente trabalho com o Latitude 7490, mas principalmente porque fez um excelente trabalho com o 7480. Quase tudo é simplesmente uma transferência do modelo do ano passado. A maior fortaleza que o Latitude 7490 tem sobre o 7480 é a inclusão dos processadores de oito núcleos quad-core da Intel. Apesar de manter o mesmo TDP de 15 W dos processadores anteriores da série U, os processadores Kaby Lake R quase dobram o desempenho de suas respectivas contrapartes da 7ª geração. O Latitude 7490 é um bom exemplo dos ganhos em desempenho de aplicativos a serem obtidos pelo aumento de desempenho em Kaby Lake R, mas também é um exemplo de alguns dos sacrifícios que os novos chips fazem. O afogamento térmico é uma questão importante aqui. Sob cargas pesadas, a CPU é capaz de impulsionar todo o seu potencial, mas apenas por breves momentos.
Seremos francos: se você já possui um Latitude 7480, pode ignorar o 7490. O desempenho adicional da CPU só será visto em tarefas que exigem muito do processador; a menos que seu fluxo de trabalho inclua o uso pesado de planilhas ou outro trabalho pesado da CPU, a atualização do processador não vale o custo de uma nova máquina. No entanto, se você deseja comprar um novo portátil corporativo ou precisar substituir uma máquina que já tem alguns anos, o Latitude 7490 deve ser considerado. A Dell criou uma excelente máquina que rivaliza com os outros campeões da indústria.
