And I truly wish that chip is in the Ally X. Perhaps the battery life could be extended even further too. Now then, I have a dilemma. Since I am already using an ROG Ally, should I upgrade to the Ally X? Is it even considered an upgrade since the performance is the same, but I get a bunch of quality of life improvements on the Ally X? As for the price, the ROG Ally X is at RM4,299 – which is a whole thousand more than the ROG Ally when it was first announced. Given that the Ally has come down in price, it’s not easy to pick between the Ally and the Ally X. Remember – Ally X has a lot of upgrades over the original Ally, but ultimately – you still get the same level of performance at double the battery life and no more annoying fan noise.

But, it offers a sleeker chassis, a more open operating system as well as faster gaming performance. You will have to fork out around twice the price of the Steam Deck to get this machine though. There’s now key competition at a similar price now too, with the Lenovo Legion Go offering a larger and higher resolution display, as well as the neat trick of detachable controllers. However, the Asus ROG Ally beats it for its first-party software experience, portability and more satisying controls. Performance is impressive given the fact this is a handheld system but, with a typical 10fps improvement on the Steam Deck, it’s not significant enough to be a no-brainer purchase. It’s difficult to hit a high enough frame rate to make the most of the 120Hz refresh rate and some games, such as Returnal, are unplayable even with compromised graphics settings.

If you’re new to the whole PC gaming handheld thing, and want to play more than just your Steam library without messing about with Linux, the Asus ROG Ally X is now the obvious choice. It lasts longer than the original, has an easily upgradeable SSD, and more RAM than any Steam Deck. The refined ergonomics also put both the MSI Claw and Lenovo Legion Go in the shade. It’s not perfect: Windows 11 still doesn’t feel entirely happy on a small screen, and the display’s colours and contrast aren’t a match for the Steam Deck OLED – even if the Ally’s higher resolution and refresh rate levels the playing field a bit. The price is a lot spicier than Valve’s handheld, too – it’s now almost in gaming laptop territory. Original ROG Ally shouldn’t be in a rush to upgrade, then, and the Steam Deck OLED remains my top pick – but the gap is narrower than ever.

Asus: A ASUSTeK Computer Inc. é uma importante fabricante taiwanesa de hardware de computador com sede em Taipei, fundada em 1989. Sob a marca Asus, a empresa fabrica uma ampla gama de produtos, incluindo laptops, desktops, placas-mãe, placas gráficas, monitores, smartphones e equipamentos de rede, sistemas completos e componentes de PC para usuários finais.

Sob a marca ROG (Republic of Gamers), a ASUS fabrica laptops para jogos conhecidos pelos gamers por suas especificações poderosas, placas de vídeo dedicadas, telas de alta taxa de atualização e sistemas de resfriamento avançados.

Além dos jogos, uma ampla gama de notebooks é oferecida para diferentes necessidades e orçamentos, desde ultrabooks finos e leves até conversíveis 2 em 1 versáteis e opções econômicas. Em 2023, a Asus tinha uma participação de 7% no mercado global de PCs.

Z1 Extreme: Processador móvel de ponta com 8 núcleos baseado na arquitetura Zen 4. Os núcleos da CPU têm clock de até 5,1 GHz e executam 16 threads simultaneamente. Integra um mecanismo de IA XDNA. O TDP pode ser configurado entre 35 e 54 watts.
