O 3D Midas touch.

We'd pay the extra £100 to get the iPhone 7 instead of the iPhone 6s. Mostly because the sturdier Force Touch Home button and its waterproof nature make it more durable. As an aside, we deeply wish Apple had solved the screen cracking issue too (so keep it in a case). Additionally, the new A10 chipset will run for many years to come. The iPhone 6s is a glorious phone, but the iPhone 7 is a keeper. The removal of the headphone jack will cause much online chatter, but you can still use headphones via an adaptor and the stereo speakers are a real bonus. The iPhone 7 is the one to get.

The iPhone 7 is finally here, but while most people's attention is focused on the new flagship phone, Apple has opted to continue selling the original iPhone 6 at a lower price. Comparing the specifications and features of the two should help guide you in choosing the iPhone that’s right for you.

For those on the iPhone 6S there may not be quite enough to tempt you to upgrade, especially if it will cost a chunk of change to do so. And with iOS 10 arriving to add all kinds of new OS features to the iPhone 6S, it may be worth waiting for the iPhone 8. However, if you splash the cash, you will get enough new benefits to justify to yourself at least that it was worth moving to the newest device, and if you get it in one of the new colours everyone will know you're the coolest guy or gal in town.

Samsung thankfully reintroduced support for microSD expansion with the S7. The Note 7 comes with a healthy 64GB which can be expanded with an additional 256GB. The iPhone 6S lacks any form of expansion option, meaning you'll need to choose wisely from the start. 16GB is just too small for most people's needs in 2016, making the 64GB variant the most sensible choice.

With its more elegant body, better camera, faster chipset, and record LTE band support, the iPhone 6s seems destined to remain the popular choice compared to the Xperia X. Moreover, Sony priced its midranger just a hundred lower than the iPhone 6s, which wouldn't help its cause at all.

The HTC 10 ended up a very well-made phone, with barely a perceivable weakness that would preclude you from getting it. It has a clean and quick interface, quite the improved camera, and a dedicated strength in the audio department, so all is well if you are in the Android camp.

Despite the iPhone 6S racking up more wins, in a lot of cases it's only by the smallest of margins. The iPhone SE loses out in only a few areas, and if you're willing to forgive the older Touch ID technology, smaller screen, weaker selfie camera and lack of 128GB storage option we see no reason why it shouldn't be your next handset.

We end with reminding you: the Xiaomi Mi 5 is not a phone meant to be sold in the U.S. or Europe. It’s only available via unofficial channels (you can find it on eBay in the United States and shop from resellers with European warehouse like GizChina’s shop in the EU), but dealing with warranties and repairs would be a huge pain. That’s probably the biggest downside to owning a Xiaomi phone right now. Then, there is the price: the phone is sold for a full retail price of $300 to $400 in China, while third-party resellers add a $100 premium on top of that.

On many of the counts listed above - waterproofing, battery capacity, removable storage, screen quality - Samsung's S7 has scored notable victories over one of the highest-profile devices it will be competing with. At least until the iPhone 7 appears in the autumn of 2016... Which leads us to one key point to remember here: we're comparing one device that's been on the market for six months with another that's brand new, so it's inevitable that Samsung will come out on top in some areas. Apple has a few months to respond, and we're excited to see what it comes up with.

Taken as a whole, the iPhone 6s offers plenty of advantages over the plain old 6. 3D Touch is a genuine time-saver and the improved camera and performance give it the slick, modern feel we've come to expect from Apple flagships. The phone's reduced battery life is our only major complaint, and it's here where the temptation of switching to Android, or even opting for the still-available iPhone 6, starts to become a lot more attractive.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge wins on many of our baseline counts. These are two very impressive phones that proudly fly the flag for their respective makers, but the decision ultimately boils down to the size of the handset you're most comfortable with. There's also the small matter of your affinity with the iOS or Android ecosystems, something we didn't feel was fair to compare in this head-to-head.

The Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6S are both great phones, and there can't be many out there who don't already have some sort of inherent preference for Android or iOS. If you're truly agnostic, though, then we'd say the S7 has the edge, as it not only has a longer-lasting battery and a better camera, but its display and overal design are also more impressive.

The Galaxy S7 is slightly more expensive than the basic iPhone 6s, but offers more internal storage, so pricing is more or less on equal footing. Samsung's Galaxy S7 comes with tons of features, it's easily one of the most versatile smartphones out there, and that counts for something. While it may not be on quite the same level as the iPhone 6s when it comes to quality of design and user experience, the troves of functionality it offers make it a worthy alternative for the tech-savvy nation.

Technically speaking, the Galaxy S7 is the superior smartphone here and it has things which you can't get on the iPhone 6S like a Micro-SD card slot, waterproofing and wireless charging. However, it's more expensive and the design of the iPhone 6S combined with the usability of iOS will make it a better choice for some. So there you have it for this quick look at the Samsung Galaxy S7 vs iPhone 6s! Things were a lot closer between the two last year in terms of design, build quality, and hardware features, but with key elements like expandable storage and water and dust resistance making a return, there is actually more separation this time around. 3D Touch is a useful addition with the iPhone that can prove to be game changer over time, so it really comes down to what features are more important to you.

Without wanting to understate the iPhone 6S's qualities, including the best-in-the-business A9 chip, we have to give this to the Nexus 6P. Even with a higher-specced screen, longer-lasting battery and superior cameras, every single variant - 32GB, 64GB and 128GB - manages to stay at least £110 cheaper than its iPhone 6S equivalent. Both phones then must be added to a qualified data plan, like Mobile Share Value, for as low as $70 a month for two phones. Then in up to 3 bill cycles you will begin receiving up to $650 in 30 monthly bill credits. The tax on both phones will not be credited, so you are on the hook for the phones. AT&T has not publicly advertised the iPhone 6S “Buy One Get One Free” promotion very much, but it is real and ends on 12/31/2015. I’ve tried to cover most of the bigger changes that Apple has made to the new iPhone 6s. There are some other changes as well such as an addition of a 4th microphone and an insanely faster TouchID that barely lets you see the lock screen. Apple has also made the iPhone 6s a bit more water resistant. You get all of that with both the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus.

You do get a lot of functionality in the iPhone 5s, and it's a great budget option. And some will even prefer its petite 4-inch screen, which makes the device a little more pocketable. Nevertheless, while new features such as 3D Touch and non-charging Hey Siri make the iPhone 6s better, it's the much faster innards that warrant the extra money. The iPhone 6s is much more future-proof thanks to its A9 CPU and 2GB RAM. Get the iPhone 6s if possible.

Each phone managed to draw blood relatively early on, but the final score can't simply be based on which phone took home the most victories. Price is an important consideration as well, on that front the Samsung Galaxy S6 seems to be leading, even if you have big storage requirements and go for the 128GB model. For that price you get the best screen, software focused on multitasking and security and a camera that works great in the dark.

The OnePlus 2's killer feature is that sub-£300 price tag, which makes it very tricky to justify spending close to or more than double that on an iPhone. We wouldn't advise getting either model in 16GB, so go for the 32GB Nexus 5x or 64GB iPhone 6s. The iPhone is the better device, in terms of both software and hardware (and blending the two together). But the Nexus 5x isn't a bad phone by any means, and it offers enough functionality to make most people happy. A lot of it comes (as it so often does) down to how much you want to stay in (or join) the Apple ecosystem of apps, entertainment and iCloud. Also, how much are you willing to pay for a slicker and easier-to-use interface? Apple fans will already have made up their mind, as will coders who find Android an easier environment to develop for.

The iPhone 6s is a complete all-around package with little compromises and lots of polished features that work reliably. But if you aren't after the iPhone 6s' “premium” appeal, you need to consider the fact that the LG G4 presents better value for money. A solid all-around Android phone, the LG G4 costs as much as $200 less than a 16GB iPhone 6s, but has at least three things going over it — a bigger display, a more elaborate camera, and a louder speaker. But, even when we put design and user interface aside, which are both subjective characteristics, the iPhone 6s does win over the LG G4 in terms of display accuracy, sheer performance, camera consistency, app quality, and battery life. Although one can certainly learn to live with the G4's shortcomings, the iPhone 6s is consistently better in almost every regard, and demanding users will find the price premium well worth it.

With both handsets going for similar approaches on a number of levels, we should really be looking at their more pronounced differences. First off, the screen of the iPhone 6s is less pixel-heavy, but that doesn't really detract from the actual user experience, and comes as a bonus in the way of smoother navigation, higher frame rate in games, and — as it turns out — satisfying battery life. With regards to software experience, cameras, browsing and most other aspects, it's almost always a question of trade-off between quality and quantity, with the iPhone 6s gravitating towards the quality side of things, and the Galaxy S6 demonstrating a preference towards the “more is better” approach.

From a purely practical perspective, we’re – – most impressed with 3D Touch and all the potential that comes with it, but also with Live Photos and 4K video, which looks a lot better than 1080p. If money is not an issue, these are indeed meaningful improvements across the board with the iPhone 6s, so you have a good enough reason to upgrade from the 6. Gamers should also be excited about the A9 and 3D Touch in games. For all the rest that are looking for a more practical reason to upgrade (rose gold does not count) and are more or less on budget, we'd say you'll be perfectly OK if you just stick with the iPhone 6 for another year.

Do you prefer the third party accessory support the iPhone gets over the fragmented Android device market? Do you prefer to be on the cutting edge of specifications at all times? So what’s the verdict? Should you buy the iPhone 6s? Is it worth its top-dollar cost? Of course it is. Between the solid design, terrific camera, silky-smooth performance, and selection of quality apps, it’s no wonder the iPhone is the most popular phone on the market. If you’re someone who values customization or hardware expandability, then you’re probably better suited looking towards other options from Samsung, Motorola, or LG, but if you want a phone that does most things well straight out of the box, works everywhere, and has plenty of third-party support for apps and accessories, it’s really hard to go wrong with the iPhone 6s — just so long as you prefer a smaller form factor. If, on the other hand, you like your phone to be large and in charge, with all the benefits of a phablet like a huge screen and an equally huge battery … the iPhone 6s Plus may be the better option for you.

Perhaps more thoroughly than any other time, though, this year's iPhone 6s has become the center of so much technological advancement, that it's able to gain a surprising amount of lead against its counterparts. That is not to say the Apple iPhone 6s is necessarily the best in each and every department; rather, it means there doesn't seem to be an area where it comes off as incompetent. And, as a matter of fact, it does prove to the best on a remarkable number of frontiers.

It’s notable that the iPhone 6s’ Geekbench scores for both single and multi-core are in the same ballpark as the current 12in MacBook. That observation is as likely to kick off a debate about whether Core M laptops should even be considered desktop-class as it is to inspire admiration of the 6s. But still, we’re now using phones with the performance of current PCs, not PCs five years ago, or Cray supercomputers in 1975, or some other weaselly comparison.

I’ve been pretty positive in my last few iPhone reviews, largely because Apple has got very little wrong. Year after year, it has churned out new models with great success, alternatively boosting power and camera resolution, then refining the design to the point at which it was tough to see where it could go next. With 3D Touch, however, Apple has delivered something bigger than you could possibly imagine, the next step in the evolution of the smartphone (you wait, soon everyone will be copying it). It’s done so without compromising screen quality or battery life, and has even found the time to improve the phone’s cameras, boosted its all-round resilience plus – as befitting an S generation iPhone – the performance and internals.

The iPhone 6s is easily the best iPhone to date, boasting a hugely impressive camera, even faster Touch ID and solid build quality - but you pretty much expected that, right? While 3D Touch is still the new kid on the block and needs time to mature, it's a positive step that shows that the 's' range isn't just about slight improvements, and if you're coming from an iPhone 6, you won't feel short changed as it takes several steps forward. It's a huge leap ahead from previous iPhones though, and compared to the top Android handsets,

We're really impressed by the offerings of the iPhone 6s, especially the 3D Touch technology. If it catches on (and we think it will) 3D Touch will completely change how people interact with their iPhones, both in terms of browsing the web and social media as well as when gaming. The camera overhaul is definitely a welcome addition too, especially when you consider Apple hasn't upped the resolution of its iSight camera since the iPhone 4s back in 2011. This works well with Live Photos, a new software feature that captures a gif-like video complete with audio when you take a photo - 1.5 seconds before the photo was taken, and 1.5 seconds after. It doesn't just boast impressive new features, the boosted internals provide us with a much faster iPhone than we're used to, and tasks that would take seconds on our iPhone 6 Plus took a split second on the iPhone 6s.

Apple's idea that 'The only thing that's changed is everything' seems instantly to be a bit of misnomer. Yes, on paper you can point to a lot of things: improved structure, new interface method, Live Photos, a sharper camera, a more powerful engine, but in reality only 3D Touch offers a significant upgrade. The iPhone 6S is a long way from a bad phone because, simply, it's an iPhone. That's not me saying that anything Apple does it going to be great, but the reason so many people fall over themselves to get the new iPhone is because they know it will be a solid experience with very intelligent interface touches and a great app store, coupled with a great camera. To many, that's all they need.

We've not played with the iPhone 6s for long enough to pass final judgement – that will have to wait a couple of days -- but what we can say with complete conviction is that it is a definite improvement on the standard iPhone 6. Its cameras, particularly the selfie cam, are vastly superior, it's noticeably faster and, more importantly, the 3D Touch feature could potentially revolutionise the way we use, or expect to use our phones.

We can't offer our full verdict on the iPhone 6s until we've spent more time with it in the PC Advisor office, but we expect it to impress us. We're pleased to see camera improvements and the innovative new 3D Touch display, but we do wish that screen was higher-resolution to match the Samsung Galaxy S6, which absolutely blows the 6s out of the water in that area.

An iPhone S update year usually means a couple of new features that most people could take or leave, but the iPhone 6S is the most exciting S model for a long time. It bucks the usual trend, delivering a phone that will offer plenty to iPhone users new and old alike, with 3D Touch a principle new feature that will lead iPhone functionality going forward. Improved battery life, enhanced cameras, slick operability from iOS 9 all make the iPhone 6S great to use, even if the screen resolution is still behind the current flagship curve. The addition of Live Photos, 4K video and baked-in Hey Siri might be less integral to all, but they're the kind of fun features people want and that Apple delivers well.

Even if you take Time-Lapse videos more often than you do Slow-Mo, the 3D Touch shortcut choice has been made for you. Potentially, this feature will be even better when third-party app functionality kicks in. Imagine applying pressure in Real Racing 3 to speed up, just like you would gun the accelerator in real life.

Overall, the iPhone 6s is a pleasant surprise when we’ve come to expect an incremental bump from ‘s’ models rather than a lot of new features. The 3D Touch display provides you with a novel and efficient way to interact with your apps. The camera is a genuinely impressive improvement, and 4K support, a more powerful processor and faster wireless connectivity are welcome additions.

We'll be spending more time with the iPhone 6s over the coming weeks, but there's no doubt that the introduction of 3D Touch, a faster processor and a better camera makes it a pretty significant update, particularly if you get the new Rose Gold model. That said, if you've already got the iPhone 6 it's well worth considering whether you really need those extra features, as it's no small investment.

Much of whether you choose an iPhone 6s or an iPhone 6s Plus depends on how much you value portability. The smaller iPhone is, in many ways, more practical. It's easier to carry, hold and store the iPhone 6s and some people find the larger iPhones Plus a little embarrassing in public (although this is less of an issue now that they are more commonplace). The larger iPhone may be more cumbersome (especially when working out) but it has a more comfortable screen, keyboard and marginally better specifications.

I really like the iPhone 6s. 3D Touch alone has made me envious that I don’t have one already. It’s a feature that really does change things, and it's so easy to use. Add in the improved 12-megapixel iSight camera, 4K video capture and the new Live Photos feature, and my envy grows bigger.

As with the previous generation, you'll want to buy the iPhone 6S Plus over the regular model if you want a larger screen and optical image stabilisation - if you don't mind paying extra for it and don't mind a bulkier, heavier phone.

Testing whether the A9 processor inside the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus is actually 70 percent faster at CPU tasks than the A8 chip will have to wait until the new phones arrive. And while I wasn't able to bend the new phones at will -- Apple employees tend to discourage that -- the 7000 series aluminum frames feel a bit sturdier than the current iPhones.

I had only about 90 minutes to try out the new Apple products unveiled Wednesday - not enough time, given that Apple Inc. has a larger iPad, a new Apple TV device and new software for the Apple Watch, alongside the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. I wasn't able to test the new iPhone cameras in natural settings, for instance, to say whether pictures are really better with 12 megapixels, instead of 8 megapixels in the previous iPhones.

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are ever-so-slightly thicker than the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but only by two-tenths of a millimeter, so definitely not noticeable when you’re holding them. Cases for the new phones should fit the old phones, and cases for the old phones may fit the new ones, depending on their design and materials. All the buttons and ports are in the same place, and so is the camera.
