AMD Radeon R5 M255
A AMD Radeon R5 M255 é uma placa de vídeo DirectX 11 de gama baixa para portáteis, que se baseia na GPU Sun (arquitetura GCN). O núcleo funciona com uma frequência de até 940 MHz, e a memória gráfica DDR3 com 1000 MHz (interface de 64-bits).
Arquitetura
Comparado com o chip Mars (por exemplo, HD 8570M), o Sun oferece menos unidade de hardware. A GPU integra 320 shaders, 20 TMUs e 4 ROPs e está, portanto, localizada no segmento de gama baixa.
Desempenho
O desempenho da Radeon R5 255 é similar ao da série HD 8500M, por exemplo, a HD 8570M. Devido a uma velocidade um pouco mais alta, a M255 deve ser um pouco mais veloz que a R5 M230. No entanto, a GPU se desempenha um pouco abaixo de uma GeForce 820M e dificilmente supera a Intel HD Graphics 4600. Jogos atuais e exigentes de 2014 rodarão fluentemente apenas com resoluções e configurações de detalhes baixas.
Os 320 shaders podem ser usados com OpenCL 1.2 para cálculos gerais (como 5 unidades de cômputo). Comparado com dois antigos chips TeraScale, a arquitetura baseada em GCN oferece melhor desempenho neste quadro.
Características
A série R5 também suporta a alternação automática de gráficos entre o GPU integrado e o GPU integrado. Chamada de Enduro, a tecnologia substitui a Alternação Dinâmica de Gráficos da AMD e é similar à tecnologia Optimus da Nvidia. Além disso, a R5 M255 pode suportar vários monitores diretamente, usando a tecnologia Eyefinity.
Outros recursos da série R5 incluem o ZeroCore para reduzir o consumo de energia quando a tela é desligada e o Power Gating para desligar áreas do chip que não são utilizadas. O PowerTune permite o overclocking e underclocking automático da placa de vídeo, desde que o GPU esteja dentro de seu limite de TDP. Por exemplo, pode se reduzir a frequência do chip ao executar FurMark e OCCT, mas irá aumentar a frequência em certos jogos.
Consumo de Energia
O consumo de energia deve ser similar ao de modelos mais lentos da série HD 8500M ou 8600M. Como resultado, a R5 M255 é adequada para portáteis de 13 polegadas ou maiores.
